Greenlough G.A.C.Players 1998
1.Vincent McDonnell.
Age: 23.
Position: Goalkeeper
Vinnie has been the 'keeper at the club since U14 and broke into the senior panel when he was 17. Vinnie has also represented the county at U-21 level.
2. Dominic Lynn.
Age: 21.
Position: Corner-Back.
D.L. is playing corner-back at the minute but he is also a versatile half back and has been known to put over a few fine scores when they are needed. He is currently studing at U.U.J.(again) and he is playing for the freshers there.Dominic has won a minor championship with the club.
3. Stephen Lynn.
Age: 21.
Position: Full-Back.
Stevie has been the fullback in the senior team for the past three years. A very dependable footballer but he has injured his ankle at the minute. Stephen has won a minor championship with the club.
4. Brendan Henry.
Age: 20.
Position: Corner-Back.
Ernie ,although small and unconventional is a most excellent defender. With lightning speed and a great ability to read the game he has proven that the corner back spot is his for a while yet.
5. Tommy Doherty
Age: 26.
Position: Half-Back
Tommy is a newcomer to the club after his transfer from neighbours Lavey, but he has already made the left half back position his.
6. Adrian O'Neill
Age: 26.
Position: Centre Half-Back
Adrian has been centre half back for about four years but this year he is really taking over as the king of defense.With his long passes and unnatural ability to know where the ball will go next he is definately one of the main players on the team.
7. Aidan McPeake
Age: 23.
Position: Half-Back
After being corner forward on the team from he was 17, Aidan was moved to the halfbacks three years ago. He is also a member of Jordanstown Thirds who are in the All-Ireland final and he was a member of the team that won the Ulster 11-a-side tournament in Derry.
8. Paul O'Neill (Captain)
Age: 24
Position: Midfield
Paul has made the midfield area his own. After breaking into the team a few years back, he has matured into being an important member of this team. Has the uncanny ability to score some great long range points
9. Paddy O'Neill (Vice-Captain)
Age: 23
Position: Midfield
Paddy is on of the most under estimated players on the team. He covers the same amount of ground as Brian Mc Gilligan did for Derry in his later years, but is just as effective. Is a great fielder of a ball and his strength means that he can take, and give a few knocks.
10. Garreth O'Neill
Age: 22
Position: Half-Forward
Garreth can be one of the best footballers in Derry. On his day there are not to many who can match his high fielding and great point taking.
11. Leo Madden
Age: 23
Position:Half-Forward
Leo transferred from the neighbouring Portglenone club a few years ago and has established himself as a regular on the team. He is very accurate from both play and dead balls. He is also on of the fittest members of the team.
12.Sean Mullan
Age: 21
Position:Half-Forward
Sean has just recently returned to the club after a few years on the sidelines. He seriously damaged his knee, and this is his first full year with the seniors. A great underage player, Sean has the ability to disturb many a defence with his ball carring and score taking. If he stays free from injury, he can become one of the better players on this team.
13.James McFaul
Age: 20
Position: Corner-Forward
James is a late comer to the squad. After only beginning his football in the U-16's, James has powered his way onto the team. Has great strength and has the ability to win frees for others.
14.Adrian Kearney
Age: 20
Position:Full-Forward
Adrian is another new member to the senior squad. He has the ability to kick scores regularly, while also setting up others.
15. James Lynn
Age: 25
Position:Corner-Forward
James is a vastly experienced menber of the team. He was a member of the great Derry minor team that won the all-Ireland, and has played on this senior team ever since. Has the unnatural ability to produce a great pass, or a score with the minimum of fuss
Donal Madden
Age:27
Position: Corner-Back
Mark Henry
Age: 24
Position Half Forward
Mark is one of the more skillful players on the team. He is a whole-hearted player, and has been on the senior scene for some time now. He can play a variety of positions, but seems to favour the full forward slot best. Is a very good goal getter.
Owen O'Neill
Age: 21
Position: Corner Forward
Owen, or Gazza, is an excellent player. Given the correct type of ball, he can make the opposition suffer. Again, he is an excellent goal getter, and will make the corner forward slot his own in due course.
Adrian (NED) O'Neill
Age: 22
Position: Corner Forward
Ned is an excellent player. A great underage player, he made his name in defence before switching to the forwards to great effect. Is a good score getter, and is equally at home taking points with either foot.
Terry Hutchinson
Age:19
Position: Goalkeeper
Terry is a very agile goalkeeper. He does, however fancy himself as a forward, and it is here that he has been plying his trade in recent months. He is another forward who can take his score well.
Barry Loughlin
Age: 17
Position: Goalkeeper
Barry is fastly emerging as the biggest threat to Vinnie. He is an excellent 'keeper, who is not afraid to mix it with the big boys. Is very commanding around the box and lets his defenders know where they should be at in no uncertain terms.
Declan "Des" Toner
Age: 19
Position: Corner-Back
Declan is fastly turining into the person no-one wants to mark at training. He is a tough tackler and does not let too many balls go past. He should be pushing for a place on the senior team very shortly
Kieran McDonald
Age: 26
Position: Full-Back
Kieran is something of an unknown quality. Having only returned to the setup a few years back, he is making his presence felt. He is a very tough tackler. Kieran is currently the reserve player of the year.
Adrian McCann
Age: 18
Position: Corner-Back
Adrian is another defender who will take no nonsence from any forward. Will always give 100% and never lets the team down
Stephen McPeake
Age: 21
Position: Half-Back
Stephen has been a great servent to the club since underage. He is mister dependable. He does everything simple and as a result, makes the game look very simple
Joe Marron
Age: 26
Position: Half-Back
Joe is the father of the team. Is a tough, no nonsense defender, who loves nothing more than putting a player on his backside with a crunching shoulder. Is the current captain of the reserves and is a manager of an underage team in the club.
Ciaran McPeake
Age: 19
Position:Half-Back
Ciaran is a player who is underestimated. He covers a lot of the field in search of the ball, and when he gets it, he can cause damage with either a score or an acurate pass to a team mate. Will soon progress onto the senior team.
Thomas McCann
Age:17
Position: Half-Back
Tommy is an excellent player who likes to get forward at every oppertunity, but always remembers his defensive duties. Is an excellent man marker, and was a member of this years MacRory team in St.Pats Maghera. Again, it will only be a matter of time before he is a regular on the senior team.
Carl Henry
Age:24
Position: Midfield
Carl is an excellent grafter. Will work hard and give his all at all times. Does not takes a beating well. Is an excellent fielder of a ball.
Fintan O'Neill
Age:17
Position: Half-Forward
Fintan is one of the youngest members of the team. He is an excellent ball carrier and is well adapt at taking a score as well. Will soon be on the senior team, and this will help to develop his skills further.
Adrian McCallion
Age:21
Position: Half-Forward
Adrian broke onto the senior team while only 16 yrs old, and has been a member ever since, although the last few years have been somewhat wayward.Is an excellent ball carrier and passer, but must be one of the few people who cannot shoot. Was an member of the Coleraine team the won the Trench Cup in 1998, and also in the team that beat the Poly in 1997.
Ruairi McGlinchey
Age:20
Position: Half-Forward
Ruairi is a hard worker for the team. Will always be relied on to give 100%. Is currently studying in England, thus his senior team chances have been limited, but will soon regain his place in the senior squad.
Damien O'Neill
Age:23
Position: Corner-Forward
Damien is another footballer who, after a successful underage career, took time of before coming back to the squad. He is quick, and like his brother, is a great goal getter.
Sean Madden
Age:26
Position: Full-Forward
Sean recently moved from England, so is a late developer in football terms. Is deadly accurate in front of goals and from dead balls. Will soon be progressing onto the senior team.
Barry John Kelly
Age:22
Position: Full-Forward
BJ is another who is an excellent target man. What he lacks in pace, he makes up with in thought, as he brings other players into the game with his thoughtful play.
Kieran Donnelly
Age:25
Position: Corner-Forward Kieran has just recently joined the panal from our neighbours, Bellaghy. He is an excellent corner man, and is no stranger in taking his score when the chance occurs.
