BSA High Adventure
What is High Adventure?
High adventure is many things to many people.
*To a boy just joining Cub Scouts, it's mostly a mystery.
*To a Scout on his first backpack, it's mostly adventure.
*To a seasoned Scout on a Sierra trip, it's mostly super fun.
*To an Venturer on a class 5 climb, it's mostly a challenge.
The Council High Adventure Team tries to make certain that High Adventure happens in every unit from Cubs thru Venturing in the Council, so that every Venturer, Scout, Webelo and Cub Scout can enjoy the mystery, adventure, fun and challenge that should be a major part of every Scouting experience.
How does the Team make High Adventure happen?
1. It administers the H.A.T. awards program. Almost every patch related to Winter Camping, Backpacking, Canoeing, Cycling, Conservation and Trail Building is made available by the High Adventure Team through the local Scout office.
2. It conducts awareness courses and seminars designed specially with Scouts in mind. Our goal is to make sure that adult Scout leaders have the knowledge and ability to lead their units on day, weekend or long-term trips that are rewarding, safe, meaningful and fun.
3. It administers the Trail Boss program by teaching adult Scout leaders the proper and prescribed methods for building and maintaining trails. They in turn are able to lead their units in these programs. This gives our youth a better understanding of our environment and creates a better relationship between Scouting and the different Government agencies.
4. It acts as arbiter between Scouting and the general public. We encourage Scouting units to respect nature and other campers when on an outing. Occasionally they forget or are misunderstood.
5. We are the Scouting auto club of the outdoors. Got a question about the wilderness? Want to know where to go on that next trip? Want to know the condition of a particular trail? Give your district High Adventure representative a call! Our team members, on a collective basis, have literally thousands of miles and hours of backcountry experience in and out of California. There is always someone glad to help you with the next activity you are planning. We are just a phone call away. Try us; you'll like us!
The Ventura County Council High Adventure Team meets at 7:30pm, the first Monday of each month at the Scout Service Center, 509 Daily Dr., Camarillo.
