HAT Outdoor Leader Training
The Ventura County Council High Adventure
Team will be conducting The High Adventure Basic Outdoor Leader Course,
Saturday Oct. 21, 2000.
The class will be held at: First Christen Church, 38 Teloma Dr.,
Ventura, From 8am-5:00pm.
This class is highly recommended for
those leaders that are involved in any type of outdoor activity, be it Cubs,
Scouts, or Ventures.
The course will cover a basic
overview of: leadership, trip planning, food planning, map & compass,
health and safety, weather, equipment, conservation, Trail Boss, and
permits/awards. This course is not intended to cover all areas in-depth,
but only an overview of each area. More info and hands on training is offered
at Awareness Seminars, or by contacting a team member for a more in-depth
training on a particular subject.
This course, along with the Basic
Backpack Awareness Course, are required for your unit to earn HAT Patch Awards.
At least one adult going on any type of High Adventure Trek that qualifies for
a Patch Award, must have completed these two courses.
Basic Outdoor Leader is also the
prerequisite for all of the other High Adventure Awareness Courses, such as
Winter Backpacking, Desert Backpacking, Rock Climbing & Repelling, Cycling,
Trail Boss, Inland Waterways, Basic Backpacking, Advanced Backpacking,
Orienteering, Snow Shoeing and Ice Axing.
Please consider attending the course.
Also remember 2 deep training, so try to have at least 2 from your unit attend
if needed. Scouts over 14 are welcome if accompanied by an adult leader.
