Habitat for Humanity Botswana 2003 -- A first glimpse

The trip was one of the most intensely physical, emotional and spiritual experiences of my life. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to go and appreciate all my friends and family who supported me with finances, encouraging words and prayers, before, during and after the trip.

Here are SIX pictures to whet your appetite!

Please feel free to read on and scroll to the bottom of this page for links to further pages of the story. I finished the final page on August 22. If you spot boo-boos and any factual errors do let me know.

In any case, enjoy and Let's Go to Botswana!

On June 30 Monday, we started here at site #1. It was merely a trench in the rectangular shape of the walls that would go up! To see each day the work progress was a terrific feeling.

Here is the team on July 8 Tuesday!! Huge HUGS to the TEAM: Enzo (the tireless and flexible leader), Natalie, Dave, Diane R, Jon, Diane D, Emme, Jonna, Kathy, George, Richard and Naomie. You all were terrific and made the adventure so much fun and one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. Mpho and Stretch were the pros who oversaw the work -- you guys are AMAZING. And then there is the ever faithful Botswana Habitat staff making sure we were taken care of -- THANKS a bundle.

Some of the kids at site #2 that won our hearts.

Ethnic dance by the youngsters to celebrate the house dedication!

July 10 in the morning, we thought our guide was amazing when he found two cheetahs. He amazed us when he sleuthed out the illusive lioness in the afternoon! She mostly slept on the ground when we found her but we quietly waited and she awoke to take a drink!

Here is a pack of those pachyderms! Isn't the little one sooooo cute!
