Geographical Location

Barachois or St. Peter's of Malbay as it was originally named is tucked away at the head of a broad embayment of the Gaspe Coast separated from the sea by a sand bar, five miles long and two hundred yards wide.

The town, whose main street is the Perron Boulevard, commands a most picturestic sight. To the north rises the last undulation of the Apalachian Mountains, to the East the blue waters of the Malbay over three miles wide and nine miles long, at the South the world famed bird Sanctuary of Bonaventure Island and Perce Rock.

The Mountains, another scenic beauty, are much admired by the travellers especially at sunset when the "King of Day" gently sinks behind the horizon, shedding its golden rays upon the bay at the same time lighting up the mountains making all things look bright and beautiful.

So breath taking its scenery, that year after year, hundreds of famed artists spend months here trying to capture something of its natural beauty~restful wood lanes, broad clean beaches, its towering cliffs which at will of the tides and the sun, change their enchanting hues. Yes, year after year, they return, always finding ample inspiration to temp the paint brush anew.

Everybody seems to be happy, for who would not be in such a beautiful village!

The parish is divided into different sections. In the centre is the village named Barachois;going west~ward, up the river Vauquelin, Rang St. Paul, Grand Maure;Coteau; finally, east~ward, Belle-Anse, Malbaie and Bougainville.
