Amberley Area

The suburb of Amberley....... is built beside Amberley Air Force Base (Royal
Australian Air Force), which operates F-111 aircraft (strategic bomber) and Caribou
transport aircraft. We are situated close to the base and regularly have to stop
our meetings while aircraft pass overhead!

A Short History of Amberley Scout Group.

The Amberley Air Scouts and Cubs were first formed in 1957. Their first den was an underground hanger, located on one side of the base. Circumstances at the time necessitated the group to move to a new location; a site was chosen, and was officially opened in January 1968 by the Chief Scout Commssioner.
In 1972 the land on which the den was located was resumed by the Department Of Defence for future expansion of the RAAF base. Scouting activities continued at the old location until February 1976, when a joint lease with the Guides was taken out on an old Chicken farm.
This address has been the focal point of Scouting activities at Amberley culminating in the construction of a new den. The new den was financed by the voluntary efforts of many parents over several years, plus the State Government subsidy and reparation for resumption of the previous den.
Today we continue to operate our expanding Scouting activites from that same den. In 1993 we added a Joey section to our family and we continue to strive for Scouting Activities encompassing the Amberley, Walloon, and Willowbank areas.
