Here is the view from the top of the stairs. The bay below is Pago Pago Bay. To the left is Mount Pioa, more commonly known as the Rainmaker. Near the middle is Matafao Peak (elev. 2142 ft), the highest point on Tutuila Island.

Years ago, cables were strung across Pago Pago Bay to the top of Mount 'Alava. The cable car offered people a scenic view of the island as they rose to the antenna station. Since then, the cables have been removed, and all that remains are the rusty remnants of a structure once used to control the movement of the cable car.
