When were we started What sections do we have The Hall itself
The Group was started in November of 1983, initially with only a Cub Pack. The Group met at the local school, but soon this become too small and so moved to the local community hall. It was only a year later that the Troop was started. In about 1989, we were offered the a house and garage, both surplus to ENCZ's needs. The Group has normally two sections, that is Cubs and Scouts. Hopefully Keas, the youngest section can be started, but this does depend upon getting the Leaders. Currently there is only the Cub section operating.

Below is a list of times the we meet (normally) at the Hall.

  • Keas NOT OPERATING
  • Cubs Wednesday 6-7.00pm
  • Scouts Monday 6-8.00pm NOT OPERATING
The current hall is the first building on the right coming into Omarama from Oamaru. The building itself is an ex-hostel house that was moved onto the site in 1989. Some of the internal walls were then removed to have the space needed for activities.

In addition a double garage, again surplus to requirments, was disassembled and transported to Omarama. While this was in 1989, it wasn't until 1994 that it was put up.

The Committee

The committee meets about once a month, with all parents of invested Scouts, eligable to be on it. It is slightly different to other committees, in that since the Brownies also use the Hall, there are also Brownie parents as well.

The committee looks after the hall maintenance, Group expenses and training expenses of the Leaders. This requires fundraising through various means. This could be...

  • Cakes stalls
  • Carwashing
  • Raffles
  • lollie sales
  • Grants
  • etc...

On average we would need about NZD$4000p/a. We are fortunate, in that we have an ice making machine, selling the ice over the summer months. Generating much needed income.
