A competitve walk for teams of 4 to 7, starting and finishing at the Beaudesert Scout Campsite, and taking in some of the beautiful Cannock Chase. The 40 mile route is mainly off the roads along paths and tracks. The walk will start from 0600HRS and teams must complete the course by 0100HRS the following morning. The minimum age for entry is 14 years on the day of the walk. This is a team event and although members of the team may retire, the remaining walkers must keep together as a team.
The entry fee of £10.00 per walker provides all campsite fees, snacks and drinks around the course and transport back to Beaudesert should you retire. For your safety checkpoints are linked by radio to a central computer which will monitor your progress around the course. After the walk you will receive a badge and certificate together with a comprehensive results sheet.
Meals at Beaudesert are available throughout the weekend if you require them.
Trophies are provided for the fastest times in the following classes which include:-
· THE ROCK (all members of the team aged 15 years or below)
· THE BOOT (all members of team aged 19 years or below)
· THE CRUTCH (any team member is aged 20 years or above)
· THE KNOT (no members have taken part in the event before)
· THE COMPASS (team to finish with both male and female members)
· THE VETERANS TROPHY (team to finish with an average age of 45 years or over)
· THE BIRMINGHAM UNIVERSITY TROPHY (all 7 members that started must finish)
· THE ROLLING PIN (all team members are female)

The Rules
- Entries must be made on official entry forms (photocopies allowed) and all information required must be supplied together with the appropriate entry fee which is not returnable.
- Entries must be from TEAMS of 4 to 7 people aged 14 or over on the day of the event.
- Entries will be closed when the maximum number of walkers is reached or on 31st January, whichever is the sooner.
- The organisers reserve the right to change any team name that is inappropriate to a Scouting event.
- Each competitor will be issued with a walk card at registration, this must be carried BY THE INDIVIDUAL WALKER and be produced and punched at each checkpoint reached.
- Competitors may only retire at official checkpoints. If a checkpoint cannot be reached then a message must be sent to the nearest checkpoint or if appropriate direct to walk control. The remainder of the team may continue, and be in the competition, provided that they are 4 or more in number. Teams with less than 4 walkers remaining may join with other full or part teams to complete the walk but will not be eligible for trophies.
- Teams must keep together at all times and therefore retired walkers can not continue with another team.
- Competitors may be disqualified if:
Any of the rules are broken.
The country code or rules of the road are disobeyed.
Members of a team do not keep together.
The stated route is not kept to.
Checkpoints are not visited contiguously.
Any assistance is received except in an emergency.
In the opinion of a marshal a walker is unfit to continue.
A checkpoint is reached after its allocated cut-off time.
- Walking boots in good order and giving adequate ankle support, MUST be worn at ALL TIMES.
- Personal equipment to be worn or carried in a rucksack by each competitor:
Warm Shirt; Warm Hat; Socks; Long trousers or breeches (NOT denim); Two long sleeved sweaters; Warm gloves or mittens; Good quality wind- and waterproof coat and overtrousers; Food for consumption en route; Pencil and paper; Whistle and compass; Torch with spare batteries and bulb; Watch; Polythene exposure bag minimum 6' by 2'6" 500 gauge; Mug; 2 coins suitable for telephone.
A reflective material MUST be visible front and rear whilst walking during the hours of darkness.

- In addition each TEAM must carry:
First Aid kit which should include as a minimum a good supply of plasters and 2 large triangular bandages.
Emergency high energy food pack.
Thermos flask with hot drink.
Sleeping bag - suitable for keeping a casualty warm.
2 sets of OS maps of the route (1:50 000 sheets 127 & 128; or 1:25 000 Explorer 6), photocopies not accepted.
- The above list of equipment will be strictly adhered to at the kit check. If you have any queries, please contact us before the event.
TEAMS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO START, or continue, the walk unless the equipment listed in rules 5 and 6 can be produced at the kit check and at spot checks carried out by inspection teams on the course.
- Acceptance of all applications will be at the discretion of the organisers. On completing the registration form, all competitors agree to accept these rules and conditions governing the event. The organisers decision will be final in any dispute. The rules may be changed if it is necessary in the interests of safety.
- To comply with Scouting & Guiding insurance, we must insist that registration forms are signed by someone with appropriate authority under the Authorisation Scheme for Hill Walking. TEAMS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO START WITHOUT THIS SIGNATURE.
- The organisers can accept no responsibility whatsoever for any accident, injury or loss of property incurred during the weekend of the event.

Please note that we can only allow 600 walkers. Please do not leave your entry to the last minute. First come first served
The entry fee is £10.00 per walker which includes:-

MEALS
Hot meals will be available at Beaudesert for both teams and support staff, but these must be booked and paid for in advance. Snacks are provided for walkers at some checkpoints on the course and drinks at most checkpoints.
PLEASE NOTE that the food provided around the course is to supplement your own food, we are not providing all your food for the duration of the walk.
