Boy Scouts of America Troop 1

More Information on Meetings, Adult Leadership and a Message to Parents

Troop Meetings: We meet from 7 - 8:30 p.m. on Mondays during the school year. Adult leaders frequently arrive between 6 - 6:30 pm to prepare facilities for that night’s meeting. While at meetings, Scouts are expected to respect church property and to act in a Scout-like manner.

Adult Leadership: While the Scouts are responsible for running the meetings, adult scouters provide a supportive and supervisory role. Three registered leaders are required for every event: there should never be any fewer than three adults with the Scouts at any given time. Our leadership has been very active and responsible in helping the boys learning about running the Troop. Some are Eagle scouts, others have gone through extensive training and still others are learning on the job. All are doing an excellent job of giving the Scouts a place to learn the responsibility of good leadership. The leadership roles that are filled by the adults are Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster (we have several to help with patrols), Committee Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and Committe Members (parent of the Scouts). Committee members conduct the Boards of Reviews to judge the scouts as they go through the ranks of scouting.

Parents: Please read the Scout Handbook, Field Book and merit badge books with your son. Your support, guidance and encouragement are vital to his growth as a young man. Troop rosters, schedules of events and newletters will be provided periodically to give you information on planned activities. The troop leaders will try to give as much notice as possible of activities so your participation can be scheduled. The troop committee and scoutmaster invite you to take an active part in the troop - regardless of how many we seem to have, there are NEVER enough adults. A Boy Scout unit is only as strong as the adult leadership that supports it. Besides, it is fun. You are welcome to come visit our Troop meetings and/or outings anytime. If you have any questions please contact any of our adult leaders listed on the homepage.
