The main waterfall How to get there

Assuming that you are coming into this road from Semenyih town. Then travel as far as the Nirvana Memorial Park. Once you past the place, keep looking right over some empty wasteland. One hint - now on the left, there should be milestones. Your landmark? There should be one that  reads, Pekan Bt18, 28 kilometers. Seeing it means that you have just passed the trail head by some meters.

Drive in and you will going round a large pond with water lilies. Continue and be observant. This road started off as a sandy track will change over as a laterite surface. After the clearings and open country, the river should be in sight, on your left.  Another kilometer up, the terrain changes. It would be one of jungle on both sides of the track.

The surroundings of the river opens up and a lone track going down on the side of a ravine. The waterfall should be there. At a place, the ravine had some much flatter surfaces. There should be plenty of left over tell tale signs that the place was once intended as a recreation spot.

Description of place

The basin where the Batangsi River flows and where this Waterfall is located, drains a series of  low hills and its source - Bukit Payong, 1080 meters high. As the volume of water here was fairly small and river bed of small rocks, the river could not carved deep  ravines or formed tall waterfalls. There were a few "falls". One was further upstream, about 10 kilometers inland. This waterfall is less dramatic than the one shown in the picture. So I would base my description of waterfall in Batangsi as this one downstream. More over evidences that this place was frequented as picnic area when compared to the one upstream - without any traces of being visited.

The Batangsi River runs within a narrow valley. Far inland the upstream segment, the river bed would be almost on the same level the track. Sadly this was also the part of track cut off by the farmers. I could not do much exploring after reaching the upper waterfalls. Then down stream, the river at some points did cut small gorges of 10 meters deep, but never dramatic.

This waterfall is at that part of the river when it was about 2.5 kilometers away from the Seminyih State road. The access is sandy track, regularly used and posed no problem to normal sedan. There would be no signboard at the spot of the waterfall. But look at the surrounding carefully, a wee bit down stream, there were a few vague signs denoting that this place was once designated as picnic ground. I could only spot those tell tale signs at an unusual angle and only on the way out of the valley. If you are driving in and do not know the whereabouts, there could be moments of anxiety. The site once located, your car would then be on ground 3 meters higher, overlooking a river. A small clearing under canopy would be easily visible. This is the picnic and camping spot. The river here was broad [about 7 meters wide flat and sandy river bed to serve all your needs. At the same time, be reminded that is all the goodies you can get from this place. The waterfall itself, not visible, is downstream after the level stretch. The total height of the waterfall is about 12 meters. At the bottom of which, is a good size pool. The catch is - the waterfall is the sector where the river cuts through the boulders and into a gorge. From the place where you would be picnicking, you need to climb down the boulders to the pool below. Getting down the slope is possible. I have looked for alternative as descending to the pool direct from the track. But getting down from a spot from the main track after waterfall is out of the question. A steep slope of nearly 20 meters. It still a better way to slowly make your way down via suitable foot holds on the boulders. From the markings left behind, though done by some  but not a common practice. There would be pictures on this place in my other web pages. Watch for that.

What is recommended

Do not be too ambitious. Just bring your food and towels along. Do some outdoor cooking and rest under the tree.

The slippery rocks and the savage conditions do not encourage adventurers to venture further. The valley were striped of its natural vegetation. The place was that of a secondary jungle interspersed with bamboo. That was the type of landscape and mood. The first impression would confirm that this is one place for those seek to be left alone. Could say that this destination was much better than many other waterfall spots, you could reach with your car easily. The clearing where you are carrying out your activities is very flat, clean and safe. That does not mean that the place is free of rubbish.
