How to get there

From the North-South Expressway, take the turn off at Tangkak. The town proper is about 5 kilometers away. Get your meals here. Those at the Park are offering compromised standards. From Tangkak, drive in the direction of Segamat. It should be about 18-20 kilometers distance. You cannot miss the huge signage of the Park on your left.

The place

Ledang is an isolated mountain peak. On it you can encounter a large variety of flora that are seldom seen. On the summit there is the usual Telecommunication equipments. Just like the rare flora, the chance of hiking to the mountain top is also a rare opportunity. The adventurous ones, outdoor lovers in southern Peninsula and visitors from Singaporeans choose this destination for their climbing and trekking.

For the lesser adventurous weekenders, the place is a very large public park which has terrain that fit most kind of outdoor activities. The river flows down this rocky mountains, every drop a cascade and small pools. There are so many of these cascades at different heights, the Park areas encompasses the lower and last portion of the river's downhill journey.  None of the beauty here was left untapped. Where the river reaches a level terrain, many minor "dams" were created to provide the park with swimming pools. Lastly, the tall old trees of this ancient forest provided excellent shaded park compound, which in turn are excellent camping sites and picnic grounds.

The area of the entrance is till on level ground. As you start walking into the park, the pools. Very short distance later, you start seeing that the river passing through very rough stretches of rapids. Steep banks and undulating ground, here numerous well trodden track will lead you away from the main walkway and into to the scenic spots by the river banks. You could ignore these "off the beaten" trails and stay with the main walkway. It's gradually leading you uphill  for another 200 meters. Then comes the steep steps. Not the length of the walk but the altitude you gain - 30 meters up the "laddered" walkway. You would be ascending parallel to the main waterfall that gushes down the steep slopes. Fantastic view at times. Continue to the top. It is another world. Above and beyond the main waterfall is region of cascades, each with broad flat rock faces for you to rest. Here you would walk on the rock faces to reach one waterfall after another. Within this stretch of 100 meters, the river has fallen a height 30 meters. Roughly guessed, there should be 3 distinct areas, where you could consider them as having independent waterfalls.

Every aspects and facilities in this park appear perfect until the weekends. The crowds unbelievable and no clue as where they come from. They flood and fills all available space. The park also has facilities for conferences and seminars, to bring in visitors from another market segment to fill up the weekdays as well.?

Since this isolated mountain that do not have long ranges, the river empties whatever water it has collected. Amount of water flow cannot be expected to be dramatic. During the drier months, the lesser amount of water in the river and the increased crowd because of the hot weather just does not compliment one another.

I would recommend!

So sorry about the last line above. Just to pre-empt that if you do have any plans to be there, consider this point.

If you planning a hiking trip to the top, you may see from the link that the park do provide mountain guide services. Also keep checking with the Park, as I do read that at one time hiking was blocked after an incident.

I think most of you would like to know how would it be like to spend a weekend there. Then I would suggest that you should consider weekdays. The place is still packed but tolerable. Small stalls with a wide varieties of food is readily available. In case you do reach here unprepared, you could get your meals from the vendors in the park. Camping in the park should be safe as the area is fenced and guarded. The lower areas are for the less adventurous and elderly. So you can expect the place to be filled predominantly with families accompanied by children and the elderly.

So much emphasis was given by me on the crowd. The upside? The steep stairway separate the family crowd from the land preferred by youngsters. The main bulk, family crowd stay in the lowland. Which group do you belong to?
