Some people think we've lost our minds as Leaders when we openly admit that we get into a car piloted by a 14yr old that can barely see over the steering wheel and go for a ride around one of the many courses set up on a driving weekend.Venturer Driving Events is not the free for all some people may like to think it is . These events are held twice a year , Ventkhana is usually on the long weekend and Bush Bash on the October long weekend. The cars are set up to a very tight set of specifications to ensure safety and the events aredesigned to be a test of driving skill rather than who's car will go the fastest. To be competitive you really need a small car as the tracks and courses are sometimes very tight and require exceptional handling skills on the part of the Venturers.

Our Unit at Bush Bash and VentkhanaOur Venturer Unit has been competing at these events since 1994 and they have been one of the highlights of our program. The preparation of a car has proved to be a major exercise in itself and the Venturers have always been keen to improve their presentation each year .We have had three different vehicles over this period , a 1974 Toyota Corolla pictured above , a Datsun 200B which is still running and ready to go and the current car we use is a 1979 Ford Escort which was 2nd place in the best presented car competition at Ventkhana 1998.We have always been there for the experience and the enjoyment first and have had trouble matching it with older Venturers from other Units but in 1994 at Venkhana in Northam we managed to take 1st place for the weekend.

The driving events have been a popular inclusion in the program for some time now and have given the Venturers a very low cost introduction into the art of handling a motor vehicle. For more information including vehicle specifications and rules covering the events we suggest you have a look at the Bush Bash Page on the Western Australian Venturers site.
