Just recently we headed up to Eneabba for a weekends caving. Eneabba is just off the Brand Highway on the road to Geraldton . The Caves we were interested were just sout of the town site and we decided to take advatage of a nearby campsite called Lake Indoon. On Friday night after the long haul up the highway being stuck behind road trains for much of the way we finally arrived at Lake Indoon just after midnight . A bit of unseasonal rain helped us get the tents up fairly smartly and before we knew it we were all fast asleep. Saturday morning and it was time to head off to our first caves located in Stockyard Gully. The track leading in was rough in places and sandy in others making it suitable for 4wd's only .After ploughing through the sandy tracks we made it to Stockyard Gully which was almost like a mini gorge . We wandered through stockyard tunnel and explored a couple of side passages which meant a fair bit of belly crawling and squeezing through little gaps. Next we went through Stockyard Arch or bridge as it is sometimes called and then into stockyard tunnel . This cave extended a fair distance and was quite slippery underfoot due to mud and bat guano. After crawling and climbing for several hundred metres we eventually came to a point where the cave came to a stop. After a quick bite to eat we were again back in the Four Wheel Drives and heading to the top of the hill to explore Aienyu Cave . This involoved dropping through a small hole and abseiling around 30 - 40m into the massive underground chamber . After having a bit of a poke around and finding most passages choke up with mud it was time to prussik or srt back up the rope and back to Lake Indoon and dinner . Everyone was in bed around 9pm after a fairly busy days caving . Sunday dawned and we again headed off road to have a look at Weelawodgi cave . Yet again the tracks were sandy and went around a couple of lakes . We arrived at the cave entrance and when venturing into the entrance we suddenly set upon by feral bees that have their hives at the entrance. This sudden attack made everyone move fairly quickly into the cave with only Garry and Dean copping stings thus far . Later John and Bennett would also cop a hit from the rampaging bees. The cave itself was fairly easy going with a couple of crawls through some soft sand . The gate blocking the fragile part of the passage had been tampered with . Somebody had taken the time to saw through a bar around 32mm bar with a hacksaw to get into the fragile passage. After measuring up the bar and re locking the gate . We had a look at a side passage signed the visitors book and then headed back out the cave moving quickly through the entrance before attracting the attention of the bees again. After packing up and a quick bite for lunch we headed back down the Brand Highway and back to Perth ready to start planing our next trip.
