    Easy-moderate tramp up a well-graded miners’ pack track in Victoria Forest Park near Reefton. Despite the grade it is still a near-900m climb through the forest to this comfortable hut near the bush edge. An optional side-trip to tussock-topped Kirwans Hill, gives great views of surrounding mountains.

    Moderate-hard complete winter traverse of Mt Fyffe, from the southern end, along the full length, down Raven Spur into the Hapuku and back via the Hapuku and Kowhai Rivers. Friday evening start to Kaikoura and walk up the 4WD track by moonlight to Mt Fyffe hut for the night. Early start on Saturday with the sun coming up “out of” the sea, across Gable to Gables End, along Raven Spur and a bush-bash down to the Hapuku. Saturday night at the Hapuku Hut for an easier Sunday over Kowhai Saddle and back to the start.

    Moderate tramp over 1630m Mt Bruce at the northern end of the Craigieburns. The route initially follows good track towards Lagoon Saddle, before turning off-track and climbing steep, mixed scree and tussock slopes to the summit.  Great panoramic views from the top.

    Moderate walk from Aickens, up the Taramakau, before turning off to Lake Kaurapataka. There is a short climb to a saddle before dropping to the Otehake Rr. The hot springs are further up the Otehake. Camping out.

    Moderate-hard exploratory climb near Lewis Pass, to a 1722m peak in the vicinity of Mt Technical.  Looks like a bash up through beech forest, and then a traverse along a ridge to the summit, looking down into the Boyle and Nina valleys.

    This easy trip offers a return walk with a spectacular cliff-top traverse of the Rakaia Gorge to  the remains of the Snowdon coal mine.  Views across the river to Mt Hutt with its winter (hopefully) coat of snow.

    Moderate. We'll let our cars do the hard stuff, then walk up the Broken River ski field road.  This will give us time to ascend to this 1922m peak on the Craigieburn Range via Nervous Knob. Returning the same way. Snow likely so bring your ice-axe.

    This hard trip across the Main Divide is one of those "must-do" tramps.  It still requires the slog up the Waimakiriri but the location of the Falls Hut makes it worthwhile. A long second day over the Col and down the Rolleston River.

    Moderate-hard tramp on the south side of the Rakaia River, east of Double Hill Station and Godley Peak. From the saddle climb 600m to point 1805m and head south along the ridge. Views across Petticoat Lane to Godley Peak. Down Turtons Stream for the walk out. Ice axe and crampons required.
