Equestrian activities in the Principality of Lochac

Please note that this page is in no way official. Any errors are solely the fault of the author, so feel free to let me know what they are, and I will correct them.

Q. Are there any equestrian activities in Lochac?
A. There are no official equestrian activities in Lochac yet, but we are working on it.

Q. Who should I talk to about equestrian activities?
A. Lochac's only (as far as I know) warranted equestrian marshall is Anneleise De Vogel. Sybilla and Elspeth are trying to get things happening, as am I (Rowanna). Any one of us would be more than willing to talk to people who want to participate in equestrian activities.

Q. Where are these people?
A. I'm not sure where Anneleise is, Sybilla and Elspeth are in Rowany (Sydney) and Rowanna is in Politarchopolis (Canberra).

Q. When will equestrian events start?
A. Official events will happen as soon as we can organise them, which may take a while. Unofficial events, such as private training and practice may happen at any time. Unofficial practices are not covered by the SCA. They are not authorised (covered by insurance) and they have no standing or any of the good things that come from being official events. On the other hand, they can take place without needing to have an authorised marshall present, which is useful if you live in (relatively) remote areas like Canberra! Unofficial events are undertaken at the participants' own risk.

Q. Do I need my own horse?
A. No. Having a horse is useful, but there are some horses that you can 'borrow'. Not many, yet, so the more people who are interested who have horses, the more horses there are to go around. There is a section in the equestrian rules which limits the number of people who can ride the one horse in the one day for official events, and this is for the horse's benefit, as well as for the riders' safety.

Q. Do I have to be an expert rider?
A. No. There are levels of authorisation from beginner to advanced.

Q. Where can I get more information?
A. Talk to any of the contacts listed above. Look at some of the web sites below for more information on what happens in the rest of the SCA. Visit the equestrian list (send an e-mail to majordomo@midrealm.org with subscribe SCA-Equine in the body) and chat with the list members. They won't bite!
