So, there are many businesses in the local area deserving of my hard-earned money. One of the first that I wanted to write about is Haring Brothers Meats on Easton Road about 2 miles from my house. This place is awesome! The meat is not fed hormones, antibiotics, or any other chemicals unfit for human consumption. I still don't enjoy the taste of beef, but if I ate the stuff, I would only buy it here. Luckily enough for me they carry all other meat products available in any meat store, and I eat just about all of them, so this is THE PLACE FOR MEAT!
They also carry all of the great Pennsylvania products that you are looking for, from lard-baked chips to fresh milk straight from the cows that weren't turned into beef. I try to get milk here every time I am going past. It's the best! All the slaughtering is done on site and all of the cows are from local farms in Bucks County, PA.
Not only do they carry meat that is actually safe to eat, they offer deer butchering services in the fall. WHAT?! James the liberal condones deer hunting?! Hey, hunting is liberal. If we don't keep the deer population at reasonable levels, they will die of starvation or throw themselves in front of cars. One of those cars may be mine! So, deer hunting is just fine by me. Most of my family hunts (we are from Pennsylvania after all...). I would hunt, but I get bored sitting in the woods not climbing a mountain and I'm a crappy shot. Unfortunately most hunters think liberals want to take hunting rifles away from responsible gun owners. That is not the case. Liberals want to take assault weapons away from terrorists and handguns away from drug dealers. Well, enough of that, this is a local business mention, not a political rant.
Here is the website for the great Haring Brothers Meats. Support your local business!

On to more Philly stuff now...
So, as I was riding the train into the city for class the other day, I looked out of my window near the Temple University stop and saw a bum urinating right in the middle of the street in plain view of the entire right side of the train. Ahhh, Philly, I love this city!
On a more sobering note, the fifth Philadelphia Police Officer in 10 months has been killed in the line of duty. He was gunned down by a career criminal near Broad & Olney in North Philadelphia while responding to a fight call. It happened early on a Friday evening, which is somewhat frightening for me since I wait at Broad & Olney for the bus around 8pm every Monday night on my way home from school. I take the subway to the bus on Mondays because it gets me home quicker than the train because of a gap in the R5 train schedule during the time my class ends. I also still have a lot of tokens that I received for free from the base when I worked there, and they're only good for the bus and subway. I'm always on my toes there anyway, but if it isn't safe for the police, is it safe for me? I've been thinking of buying mace because I can't always win a fair fight if I'm jumped, but I can beat the shit out of a guy who can't see or breathe. The bus has been making me carsick, so maybe I should just take the train..... I hope this is the last news of a Philly cop being killed that I have to hear ever again.
