The
Pack 855’er - November 1998
Hey, it's my favorite time of the year! Time to eat too much turkey (and everything else!) and watch too much football. The kids get some time off, as well as the parents, and after being off with the kids over the holidays, Mom and Dad could probably use more time off! Oh, well. It's a great time of the year and tonight also marks our last "Official" Pack meeting of the year.
We had a great year once again during our Popcorn Fundraiser. The specifics are listed below, but just let me say that the Pack is sitting very well and because of everyone's hard work, we should have great Blue and Gold Banquet in February plus be able to do many other special things for the boys!
Here is some number crunching for the popcorn sales from
the Pack's Popcorn Kernel, Ricky Ray:
TOTAL SALES $8259
TOTAL ITEMS SOLD 883
Top 5 sellers in dollars:
1st Place Adam Folk (Scorpions) $741
2nd Place Michael Aiwohi (Dragons) $571
3rd Place Justin Murdock (Dragons) $555
4th Place Kyle Young(TimberWolves) $534
5th Place Austin Adams(TimberWolves)
$506
As you can see the Dragons and Timberwolves both had 2 of the top 5 sellers!
The Sharks (even though they didn't make it into the top 5) had and average of $356 per boy! That is awesome!
The Dragons had an average of $239 per boy.
The Scorpions had an average of $224 per boy.
The Tiger Sharks had an average of $191 per boy.
The Timberwolves had an average of $185 per boy.
The Tiger Frogs had an average of $180 per boy.
We had 37 participants this year.
As you can see the boys did great. They really deserve a pat on the back!
And now on to Den News …
Dane Ewing, Daniel Davis, Adam
Folk and Nicholas Ray, of the Scorpions,
spent a Saturday morning at the North Texas Food Bank. They went with a
group from TU Electric to help sort goods sent to the food bank to prepare
it for distribution. They got to see first hand what happens to the food
the Scouts collect in our annual food drive. We've been on the collection
end before and now we know how much more WORK needs to be done before that
food gets put into the hands of those who need it. The guys were troopers
and worked very hard! They have very strong backs for such little guys!
The parents of all the Flaming Dragons would like to thank the boys on all of their hard work on selling popcorn
for the Pack! Since this is their last Popcorn Drive with the Pack, they would like to leave the group in as best of shape as possible! Special "hats off" to Michael Aiwohi and Justin Murdock for being the #2 and #3 sellers in the Pack and the top seller for the Dragons. Great job, guys!
The Flaming Dragons have been steaming full speed ahead in trying to earn as many Activity Pins as possible before they move up to Boy Scouts. They FINALLY finished the Craftsman Pin after starting it last year. They also worked this past month on learning all about trees and their many uses to earn the Forester Pin.
Two of the boys, Jonathan Flores
and Alex Alman, are already looking ahead
to Summer Camp in July! They went with Troop 67 out to Texas Stadium with
the 67 Scouts to sell Sunday papers for the Dallas Morning News at the
Cowboys/Giants game. Jonathan and Alex each earned $35 towards their Scout
accounts and we have another one planned for December 20th.
After that one, they will have their summer camp half paid for. Good work
guys and way to take some of the burden off of ol' Mom and Dad!
Over the past month the Tiger Sharks have been a busy bunch. We made our own Halloween costumes and decorated pumpkins, baked cookies and made hand puppets.
Each boy also designed his own family tree. The Tiger
Sharks also raised approximately $730 in popcorn sales.
That Den with the Most Original name, the Tiger Frogs were a very scholarly bunch in October and November. Cheryl and the guys made a field trip to the Mesquite Library and read ten books during the last month.
They also found time during their busy Den meetings
to work on getting to know good ol' Mother Nature and earned the Discovering
Nature and Energy Patch.
Please pay close attention to our Events Calendar on the
other side of this sheet. We will be going caroling next month at Christian
Care Nursing Home and I would like for each Den to make 3-4 cards or decorations
for the residents there. This will be a great chance to brighten the lives
of some older folks who, unfortunately, sometimes get overlooked during
the holidays.
