The Pack 855’er - October 1998

Well, we made it through another Tomahawk District Camporee! The Webelos Dens from the Pack, the Sharks and the Flaming Dragons, had a great time and a great turnout! We had a total of 13 boys and approximately 25 parents journey out to Camp Cherokee near Athens to participate in some Webelos events during Camporee and enjoy some GREAT weather. The Pack managed to bring back a third place ribbon in one of the events, plus got to learn how to buy food, cook, and clean up for a large group. The boys also camped next to Troop 67 of Vanston Middle School (of which Mark is also the Scoutmaster). Not to brag, (yeah right!), but the Troop brought home one 1st Place Ribbon, and five 2nd Place Ribbons, plus the Best Overall Troop Ribbon. Not bad and not bad company to be camping with!

The weekend's events were capped off by a fun campfire back at the campsite where the members of Troop 67 entertained the boys with skits and ghost stories and more cobbler, compliments of moi, than everyone could eat! We'll have pix from the Camporee in next month's newsletter.

And now on to Den News …

The Timberwolves had a busy weekend!!!!! The gang had their first campout of the year begins at Lake Bob Sandlin, for fishing, hiking, nature observations and mounting of their bird houses in the park. The boys also caught a BUNCH of fish, which the promptly released. Some of the boys even managed to catch some 7 and 8-inch black bass. Man, they have better luck than I usually do. Sounds like a great weekend!

The Wolves' popcorn sales are coming along quite well.

Meanwhile at the Scorpions Den: The boys have been busy selling popcorn! They are working on advancements toward their Bear. They've been hamming it up for their their debut at this month's Pack meeting.

The Flaming Dragons once again have had a very busy month. They have spent a lot of time in the garage working on their leather projects and woodworking projects for the Craftsman pin. The made arrowhead shaped bolos, keychains, bookmarks, and a napkin holder out of tongue depressors! They also were very busy planning for the fore-mentioned Camporee this past weekend. The Dragons would also at this time like to introduce the newest Dragon, Matt LeBlanc! He has been a great addition to the Den and his Dad and Uncle Brad was a lot of help and very excited at the Camporee this past weekend and his Mom helped by the food for the Gang. The Dragons are glad to have y'all!

Those wild and wacky Tiger Frogs have had a fun and busy month! They have been living room bowling (!) and made musical instruments to earn the Family Entertainment Patch. They also went on a field trip to the FireHouse. The Gang also made Halloween decorations for Friday and made cards for a local nursing home towards getting their Helping Others Patch. Finally, the guys earned the Baking Patch by bring items for last months Cake Auction. Whew, what a busy bunch and month. Good job, Frogs!

Last but not least, the Sharks I know have been busy!

They would like to first off welcome Arthur Carroll to our Den! They have been working hard towards earning the Webelos Badge and activity pins.

This past weekend was their first Camporee and we had a really great time! All of the walking was really something, but we will be prepared next time. Congratulations to the Dragons Den #2 on their 3rd Place finish in the Camp Gadgets event! The Sharks would like to thank the entire Dragons Den and their parents for showing us the ropes. Also a thank you to Mark and Lori Alman (you're welcome!).

Last but not least, we would like to thank Gary! Not only do we appreciate you being at Camporee, we want to thank you for helping at our Den meetings! Good luck to everyone on their popcorn sales.
