The Pack 855'er

Oh my Gosh!! It is already Turkey Time! My favorite time of year when you eat too much, spend too much, and watch WAY too much football! What a way to end 1997!

The Pack has been very active this past month, mainly with Popcorn, Popcorn, and more Popcorn! Be sure to get your orders delivered ASAP and get that $$ turned back in to your Den Leader. Den Leaders, DON'T SIT ON THAT $$!! Get it turned into Lori or Sharon immediately if not sooner. Money MUST be turned in by Dec. 5th at the latest. The sooner it gets turned in, the bigger share the Pack gets.

Hope to see all of you at the Annual Tomahawk District Fishing Derby this Saturday. It will be at Valley Creek Park south of the Pioneer and Bruton Rd. intersection. See the flyer for more details.

As far as den news goes ...

Those ferocious Sharks have been really busy this month. They worked very hard on their popcorn sales and did a great job!! All of the boys have earned more Achievement Beads and their Whittling Chip Cards. Our soap carvings were interesting, to say the least! Their big project for the month was bird feeders. Everyone had a great time at this meeting. We also are looking forward to some fun field trips in December! Finally, the Sharks would like to welcome their new Den Chief, Matthew Patrick! Matthew is a member of Troop 138 and will be a great addition and help to the Den and the Pack. Welcome aboard, Matthew!

The Flaming Dragons were in an "ER" mode this past month. They spent most of the month working on their Readyman pins. The gang made First Aid Kits, practiced CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver on some practice dummies (No, not each other!), and learned basic First Aid. A big thanks to Doris Erdmann for bringing the dummies and working with the boys to learn this valuable knowledge. Several of the other boys also completed their Fitness and Citizenship pins, which they'll receive tonight.

Amy and those terrific Tiger Sharks also had a busy month. They visited the Fire Station and have been researching their family and community. The boys have been working hard at school, also! Cody, Ryan, and Andy all made Straight-A's and Cody and Ryan also had perfect attendance. Way to go, boys!!

The Jaguars have spent a busy month working to finish their Webelos badge requirements. Congrats go out to Zach Hinkle for completing his Bobcat requirements. All of the boys worked hard to finish up several activity pins. They learned about trees and wildfire prevention while earning the Forester badge. To earn the Communicator pins, the boys used secret codes, semaphore flags, talked on Becky's CB radio to UPS drivers, and practiced making phone calls to businesses requesting information. They also toured the Main Branch of the Mesquite Public Library. The boys made Jacob's Ladders and Thanksgiving Turkeys as they started on their Craftsmen pins. Six boys will earn their Webelos Badges at this Pack meeting. Congratulations and great job to all the Jaguars!

Upcoming Activities

Be sure to checkout the upcoming activities on the other page. We have a busy Fall coming up and hope to see all of the boys and dens participating!

Later on in December, we will be visiting and singing for the folks at Christian Care in Mesquite. This is located at Northwest Drive and I-30, next to the Mesquite Golf Course. Please plan on and work hard in making cards, etc. for the 180 residents there. We are asking each boy to make at least three items so that no residents will be left out. A Pack Christmas Party will commence next door at the Golf Course afterwards.

Please look over the Pack T-Shirts we have for sale. They are a measly $6 each and the money benefits the Pack.

Also, look over the cakes that our Bears and Wolves made and make a bid for a great tasting, seasonal treat to take home to enjoy after the meeting.

Finally, if you have a buddy who is interested in Cub Scouts, or know someone who has recently dropped out, get them to sign back up!! If you recruit them between now and December 15th, you'll get a special Bill Bates Scout Patch!! Get with Mark for more info.

If you have any news that you would like to submit, Scout-related or not, pls call Mark Alman at 279-2386 (Home) or 972-995-2623 (Work) or email at alman@bigfoot.com.
