The Pack 855'er - September 1997 Issue
Welcome to our first Pack meeting of the Scouting year!! I want to thank and welcome all of our new Scouts and parents for coming to our Scout night Aug. 28th and signing your son up for Scouts. By doing so, you show that you are concerned about your son's future and want him to be involved in a positive and fun program. Be active in his life and volunteer to help your den leader. Without active parents, boys, and leaders, we have no Pack.
We had an extremely successful Scout night. We added almost 70 boys to our pack that night and have added several more since then. Great job! As a result, all of our dens are rather large so don't be afraid to help the leaders out. Please welcome our new leaders this year! Ricky Ray, one of our new Wolf leaders, and his assistant, James Folk. Also welcome our new Tiger leader, Amy Madrid.
The dens have already gotten off to a busy start. The Jaguars started working on their Naturalist Webelos pin by building a bug keeper (yecch!!) and a terrarium and by going on a field trip to the Dallas Zoo. They also visited Troop 90 to watch their flag ceremony. The Jags would also like to welcome their newest member, Zach Hinkle, to their den!! Finally, Matthew Coulson was selected to be in the play "To Kill a Mockingbird" that will begin playing at the Mesquite Arts Center in October. Way to go, Matthew! Can an Oscar award be next?!
The Flaming Dragons (formerly the Scorpions) have been very busy getting the new boys their Bobcat Badges. Nine will be getting them tonight! They are Michael Aiwohi, Stephen Canales, Brandon Cullen, Alan Erdmann, David Garner, Alex and Daniel Lopez, Chris McKiddy, and Trinity Salinas. Great work, guys!! They also have been working on their Fitness and Citizenship Pins. The boys had fun doing exercises in the Alman's driveway and playing a wacky game of "Baggy Clothes Relay". They have had a great time getting to know each other and planning for Camporee.
Ricky Ray, James Folk and the new Scorpions would like to welcome their new den chief, Chris Hicks! Chris is a great kid and will be a lot of help to Ricky and James and their Wolves. Chris is doing a great job as Den Chief and is pulling double duty as Den Chief for the Scorpions on Tuesday nights and Den Chief for his Mom's den, the Raccoons, on Thursday nights! Keep up the good work, Chris!!
The Bengal Tigers spent their first month of meetings working on the "Getting To Know You" patch and planning their first den campout to Fairfield State Park. We were down there last year when the Tigers camped and they had a good time then and I'm sure they will this year, as well. While there, the boys will work on their Nature and Camping Tiger patches.
The Diamondback Rattlers are happy to welcome Anthony Dietrich, Robert Prichard and Paul Hataluk to our den. We are especially pleased that our new scout, Anthony Dietrich, has already earned his Bobcat badge. Way to go, Anthony! Also Chris Rowe and Britt Hutcheson have earned their summer activity pin for participating in all the summer activities.
I'd like to welcome our new Tiger Den to the Pack. They are the Tiger Sharks and Amy and the boys have been very busy already! They are starting off on a fun and exciting year of Scouting. The boys in the den are Austin Adams, Ryan Madrid, Roy Mennel, Brett Polvado, Derek Shaw, and Zachary Stewart. All six of these boys have earned their first patch, "Getting To Know You.". They are now working towards their "Family Entertainment", "Discover Nature", and "Energy" (this last one should be no problem with six 1st graders) patches. Zachary has also earned his Tiger Cub Belt Totem by memorizing the Tiger Cub Motto and Promise.
Those old timers of the Pack, the Cobras, have been working hard in sports with Lisa Nedella and Mary Perez. They have been working on and will get their Ultimate, Volleyball, and Basketball Belt Loops tonight. Plus, Sean McCarty and Robert Dotson will both be getting their Bobcats tonight. Great job, guys!
Misty Luhring and The Mighty Hawks Wolf Den have had a busy month already. They have been working on getting the boys their Bobcat Badge, which Andrew Foster and Adam Nedella will be receiving tonight. Plus, they went to the Zoo while working towards an Arrow point.
Meanwhile, those other old timers of the Pack, the Raccoons, Vanna Duda has taken over as Den Leader and Karen Huffines is her new Assistant! Congrats go out to Andrew Duda for earning the Aquanaut and Naturalist Webelos Pins and to John Huffines for also earning the Aquanaut Pin. The whole den has also been busy working on the Citizen Pin and the Raccoons are happy to announce that Michael Hall has earned his Bobcat. Good going, Michael!
The Sharks would like to welcome to our den Jeremy Spradlin, D'Angelo Smith, and Scott McHargue. Welcome aboard, guys! Y'all are in good hands. We have lots of fun planned for the coming year. We would also like to thank Noel/Greaves Inc. for free passes to the Dallas Zoo. We are looking forward to this field trip. Let's keep up the hard work in achieving our Bobcat and Bear Badges. Wanted
* Parents that want to have a hand in what we do as a Pack. * Help leaders in planning. * Earn praise and admiration from fellow parents and boys. Join the Pack Committee and/or volunteer as an Asst. Cubmaster. Call Mark Alman at 279-2386.
And last but not least, a big "Atta Boy" to the following boys for making the Pack Picnic in June, the Pack Pool Party at Vanston in July, and the Pack Bowl-A-Rama in August at Bigtown and earning the Summer Activity Pin: Alex Alman, Britt Hutcheson, Matthew Chadwick, Jonathan Johnson, Clint Niles, Mark and Kyle Ramsey, and Chris Rowe. Great way to show Scout Spirit, guys!!
Be sure to checkout the upcoming activities on the other page. We have a busy Fall coming up and hope to see all of the boys and dens participating!
Please look over and don't be bashful in signing up for one of the Pack Activity Committees. We have several this year and looking for enthusiastic help from Parents. No matter what your talents and time constraints, we have something for you to do and any help is better than none. It's not fair to force the Den Leaders to run their dens AND have to shoulder the load for our Pack activities, also.
If you have any news that you would like to submit, Scout-related or not, pls call Mark Alman at 279-2386 (Home) or 972-995-2623 (Work) or email at alman@bigfoot.com.
We are now wired!! Check out Pack 855 on the World Wide Web at the URL address below: www.oocities.org/Yosemite/Rapids/1855/. This page is still under construction, so ignore the B & B picture!
