The unabomber is in a quandry. Here is a man who randomly killed people who he considered to be a threat to society. He is, in fact, insane yet he doesn't want to be deemed as such.Let's think about that for a moment. Isn't it safe to assume that anyone who commits such a crime is at least a little unstable? The mothers who kill their children. The rapists who leave women for dead. Isn't it reasonable to accuse these people of wandering around with a few screws loose?
Given that, why are these people even able to plead insanity as an excuse? Why don't they all plead lunacy? Surely anyone who kills people is at least a little nuts. Psychologists have characteristics that a person who is termed "insane" will have. Shouldn't killing people be one of them? I don't see how we can call any of those people sane.
"Insanity" isn't an excuse. A condition of insanity is essential for homocide to occur. It's incidental.
Frankly, I've had it with the insanity and the temporary insanity pleas. I think it's a waste of time. It's rather apparent that anyone who murders people is a bit unstable. Let's stop using it as an excuse.
It's a simple solution for Ted Kazynski, really. If you don't want to be considered insane, don't kill people.
