Jen Trivia

Name: Jennifer
Birthdate: 1971
Location: Lost in America (for details, see Who Is This Person?)
Pets: Emma, terribly hyper dog who can catch a frisbee and might fetch me a beer for an ice cube. She also sits, lies down and rolls over with hand motions. Her vocabulary consists of about 50 words including: sit, lie down (not "lay down" - only proper grammar for this dog), roll over, peanut butter, stay, catch, do your thing (pee), and do your job (poop). My favorite trick is where I balance a treat on her nose and she won't catch it until I say "three". Then there's Loki, a 5-year-old black cat who hates the dog. He'd bite her head off if he could have his way about it. I obtained him afterpicture of fish I had lost my college cat to feline leukemia. I like Loki a lot better. He lets me use his stomach as a pillow. He is a lot like gumby, stretching and twisting into any number of shapes. Also, miscellaneous fish - somewhere between 0 and 30 of them at any given time.
Strangest Talent:

Singing

I seem to know the lyrics to nearly everything that comes on the radio from Abba to Zeppelin. Frighteningly enough, this includes the likes of Dan Fogleberg, the Bee Gees and Anne Murray. The scariest part, though, is that I've been known to drive about with every conceivable window open and sing these lyrics, whatever they may be, at the top of my lungs. And, unfortunate for my friends, it doesn't matter who is in the car with me, I'm always singing. It's impossible to carry on a conversation. A while ago, I was shouting to Fiona Apple while stopped at a light. I looked to my right to find a woman laughing at me. What could I do? I just laughed along with her and kept "singing".
Pet Peeves: Wow... maybe I should dedicate another web site to this... Just kidding, I'm simply not as anal as everyone thinks I am. I do, however, get annoyed by poor grammar, poor driving etiquette (see Road Rules) and people who really should be classified as insane, but aren't (see The Best Revenge).
Smartest Decision I Ever Made: To go to an out-of-state university, despite that fact that out of 35,000 students, I would only know 1. And that was me. A bit rough at first, I considered transferring but decided to finish what I started. Perseverence made those the best years of my life. I even have the grades to prove it (cough, cough).
Stupidest Decision I Ever Made: Credit CardsTwo Words: Credit Cards.
Two More Words: Using them.
Most Annoying Habit: Tying my hair in knots. (In fact, I'm doing it as I'm editing this.) You know how some people just twist their hair? Not me, I tie it in knots. Most of the time, it's relatively harmless. I'll twist in some simple knot and walk around with this circle of hair on my head and merely look like an idiot. But once or twice, I've tied a very small knot into my hair and had no choice but to cut off some hair to get it out. One of these days, I'm going to tie my hair into a huge complex knot with all sorts of twists and turns and I'll have to shave my whole head. Then I'll really look like an idiot.
Second Most Annoying Habit: Bouncing my knees, shaking my knees, whatever you want to call it. Almost as annoying to others as pencil tapping, or so I've been told. Dad perpetually complains when we're at the lake house (a very old, small, shack of a place) because when we're out on the porch and my knee is going, the whole bloody house shakes. The shack is 60 years old, after all... maybe he's worried that with one good bounce the whole house will cave in.
Odd Fixations:

Sun Face
There are two things in this world with which I am somewhat obsessed. One is Australia (see Wish List) and the other is Sun Faces (I don't think that these 2 obsessions are entirely unrelated). For some reason, I have found myself collecting suns with faces for some time. They make me happy. I even carry one around with me on a keychain. I am not very fond of snow/winter (other than the occasional snow storm which gets everyone out of work/school), though I seem to tolerate it more as time goes by. That probably also has something to do with these fixations. So please don't be bewildered if you find an overabundance of sun faces scattered through these pages. I thought it would be polite to fore-warn you.

My Favorite Things

Color: Green
Food:

PizzaUnfortunately, most of them. However, I don’t like to be in the same room with green peppers, meat loaf, mashed potatoes or any food that is not immediately recognizable.
Drink: If it contains alcohol, and is not a wine cooler, I'll probably drink it. I am, however, partial to Heineken, Tanqueray (gin) and tonic, and Chardonnay. I was recently introduced to cognac and have Drink found that I've taken to Courvoisier VSOP. If it doesn't contain alcohol, it will probably be water, milk, Mountain Dew, or Diet Coke. And the only orange juice I go anywhere near is Tropicana NOT from concentrate.
Movie: All absurd action flicks (i.e. Independence Day, anything with Arnold and Stephen Segal), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Classics (Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Giant, Casablanca) and movies that make me laugh. I also enjoyed Seven Years in Tibet and other such historical films. Bear in mind that there is a difference between a film and a movie.
Actor/Actress: Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Audrey Hepburn.
TV Show: I never miss Seinfeld or Mary Tyler Moore. In fact, I've got quite a collection of videos of these shows. I also try to make a point of catching A&E's Biography, Drew Carey, News Radio, VH1's Behind the Music, and National Geographic Explorer.
Music: I listen to anything, but prefer alternative. Vivaldi calms me. Early 80's music makes me want to dance. Generally, I don’t like rap (excluding some L.L. Cool J and the occasional Coolio clip) or country twang (unless I’m in the mood to slit my wrists). After all these years, though, I'm still a huge Billy Joel fan. I also went through a Smith's phase.
Book: I have a tendency to read spy books (Ken Follett’s Eye of the Needle), historical fiction (Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth, James Michener’s Hawaii) Bookand books that make me think (Jane Hamilton‘s Map of the World, Corman McCarthy's All the Pretty Horses). I never even look in the general direction of a true sci-fi novel, or worse yet, a cheesy romance novel (I grew out of those when I was 10). Currently (July 1998), I'm reading The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx. Fabulous read...
Author: Ken Follett (needless to say), William Goldman (most noted for The Princess Bride), Michael Crichton (I was reading him before he was cool), Richard North Patterson, Anne Rivers-Siddons and James Herriot.
Sport to Watch: Braves baseball, college football, boxing (when Holyfield beats the crap out of Tyson), tennis (when I’m unbelievably bored), and golf (when I reach the zombie stage).
Sport to Play: Anything during which I don’t fall down. But I also Blades rollerblade and have aspirations of getting scuba certified sometime in the near future.
Pass Time: I read like a maniac, am learning photography, and get a kick out of refinishing furniture. I love to camp, hike and try to train Emma (what a challenge). To sum it up, though, I can honestly say that I would try anything that can be done outdoors or in water.
Word: There are a lot of words that I just love the sound of. Czechoslovakia, incorrigible, onomatopoeia, ubiquitous, Schnectady, boorish (because it can be such an insult). Most words with "c" and "k" and other sharp sounds I enjoy. If you put your mind to it, you could probably think of a few unmentionables that I love to say when something gets screwed up. In fact, one is another word for screw...

Wish List

To live... Australiain Australia - though I’ve never been there, I’d move there in an instant.
For my next car to be... a Land Rover Discovery, though I'd settle for a Jeep...
For my dog... to sit down and shut up for once.
For my cat... to fall madly in love with my dog.
For my mother... to forget that she's my mother for 10 minutes (and remember that I'm not 12 anymore).
For my job... to become exciting.
For this town... to fall off the face of the earth.
For some Ed... to arrive at my door with several million dollars...
