It all started with phone call from my uncle. He'd been seeing deer on a regular basis, and needed some help harvesting them. He invited me and a friend, Bobby, to come hunt his land. After A long discussion with my boss and a sick call to Bobby's, we were on our way. I worked the night shift the night before the hunt, and drove a long 4 hours to get to my uncles land, and Bobby slept.

We arrived at my uncles house around 5:30 a.m. and in Georgia, that's pretty near daylight. After pulling into the driveway, I noticed there was nary a light on in the house. I knocked...actually BANGED on the door, only to have my uncle answer wearing nothing but his "fruit-da-looms". To say I was upset would be putting it lightly, because he should have been ready! It was getting daylight, and quick! He invited us in, and woke my aunt up to put us on some coffee. He lolly gagged around, till way past daylight, telling Bobby and me "calm down ya'll, the deer ain't a movin' right yet anyways,..... They usually don't move till about 8:30 and we've got plenty of time."...

Well me and Bobby wasn't too happy with our "guide" and started out the door. My uncle told us to hold on, and he'd be right with us. We'll 45 minutes, and with the sun over the treetops later, he was with us. We all loaded up in the jeep and he took us to a little logging road, and dropped us off. He told me to go one way, and Bobby to go another. My uncle told me that he'd been watching a good buck cross the logging road beside a big pine tree about 150 yards on down, and that it would cross around 8:30 a.m. Bobby, wanting to see my uncle's "prediction" come true decided to follow me and we'd just hunt together. I think he was just going to try and shoot that buck before I did. Anyway, we went down the road and found the pine tree and set up about 75 yards from it and waited. If I'm lying, I'm dying, a buck stepped out on the logging road at 8:21 a.m., and with a 30-06, 180 grain bullet placed in the lungs, the buck dropped in its tracks. It was a 6 point that dressed 140lbs and was "guesstimated" to be around 180 pounds on the hoof.
