I suppose I'm not sick yet, this is typically the age when there still is drive to work hard and do well and etc....although there is still the occasional envy of simplistic countryside life when those scenes appear on TV or magazines.
Yes the first time I watched Matrix I was also too busy absorbing those artificial pyrotechnic wonders. But I got the DVD now! So can look further into the story. And there was this part that really caught me. Was when Morpheus (Fishburne) said that he was sorry to have brought Neo (Keanu) out to reality, and that there is no turning back for him to be back to the Matrix. Then Morpheus asked, even if Neo could, would he want to? I couldn't answer that myself, if I were Neo. The thought of deceiving your physical self and living only a brain-life, in the perfect human world with riches and luxuries and people you love....is too attractive. But then again, it is still not REAL. Is being REAL really that impt?
Sigh...sorry for the babbling, it's just something I can't get over with, cos I really can't answer Morpheus's question.

I was comparing the two entries below and I could see the vast difference in meaning. There I was babbling about free net access and stuffs and the Thai gal wouldn't even know what the Net is, probably the only net she knows is used for fishing livelihood. Which brings me to Wen's question like, is ignorance really bliss? The Matrix brought up a similar dilemma, of whether you want to stick to the REAL and fight for freedom, or be inserted back to the Matrix to carry on the perfect human lifestyle. Similar as to whether you wanna urbanise and fight for riches and glory and survival, or stay simple and self-sufficient although knowing that there is a better life out there.
I guess when I get sick of the ratrace (prob will be 40+ then), I'll yearn for the latter.

I'm back!I always wanted to try being a construction worker, and I did. ( Also a taxi driver, but that's another story )We were digging this well-thingy for a coupla days, and it was so darn big accross the 22 of us ( girls hardly count tho ) only managed to deepen it by about one metre. I was one of the few that found it fun. // ( can u believe after years I still cannot paragraph? Anyone noticed b4? ) After that we went to a really ulu and therefore poor and isolated and primitive village to observe a on e-a-year festival where the guys meet girls from other villages, and I was struck by how similiar our cultures actually are, courtship dances admist dark and smoky conditions, loud music and half-hearted dancing. // I was wondering how jaded we must be, t sit on top of a mountain surrounded by sky, watching this rare festival and feeling so very bored. After four straight hours of looking alternately into a fire ( with at least five other guys ) and a really slow dance, and feeling ridiculously bored, yet thinking that I shouldn't be, I took one look at the faces around me and broke into the deepest laughter since Howeyang and his gay son. All I had to do was approach a stone-faced guy and ask " ni you mei you yi DIAN DIAN sian?" and look at his expression and I couldn't stop. Sometimes I really crack myself up. // Looking at their lives, I wonder how much they know of the outside world, outside of growing and harvesting and eating and sleeping and dancing once a year and the occasional cigarette. I wonder about their lack of awareness, and whether that is good,bad,or even important. // I saw this girl, about my age or younger, flipping through an aged calender of skyscrapers and smiling caucasian faces. I saw her thoughtful looks, and wondered what she was thinking,wished I could know what she was thinking, wished I had the words, or knew what it was exactly that I wanted to put into words.// END of story, without even a single comment, sideways or otherwise, on the Jeremy Saga.

Local people, has anyone tried out StarHub's free surfing thing, or you guys still waiting to see how it is? Let me do a little preliminary review hee
I ordered the starter kit online last week, and it just arrived. Starting up is a breeze, with really idiot-proof instructions. In fact the start up program is very aesthetically-appealing... In no time I was registering for my account, activating it, and voila! I'm connected. StarHub supports 56K straight, unlike Pacnet, which offers two lines, one 33.6K and another 56K, the latter charging more. Surfing is fast for local websites, and quite reasonable for overseas ones. It's not bad at all, but maybe cos I'm trying it out in the afternoon it isn't accurate.
But anyway, for a freebie, this thing scores high. Oh yar btw "minors" (under 21) so they claim need to have parent's authorisation to apply. And once they turn 21 they will have to apply for a new account. Shitty huh? Just 1 year short....

Ok final orders: There will be 2 groups meeting. The advanced party will meet at 12pm at the Changi playground. These people will go book the campsite (suggested one is Mamam). 2nd party, which will most probably be the Christians, will meet at around 3pm (for confirmation pls contact Joshua, or Joshua will contact you).
About gift exchange, it is suggested that we each get a generic gift under 10 bucks, and the exchange partner will be disclosed only there and then. This is due to us not being able to confirm presence.

Rite guys I've been shot with a huge arrow that says "You're the Christmas-Ubin Organiser!".
Rite so here's the plan, listen to the man (hehheh). First gotta know who can make it and who can't. Joshua should have called some of u guys already. When I can more or less confirm the manpower list, I'll draft a gift exchange list. Then erm, we're supposed to bring our own food, wun be getting food in bulk. Tis more convenient. And bring all the entertainment stuffs u can think of. CDs, cards, any stuff. Think we have enough tents...enough for like 20 men. And Jer, bring a 2-man tent instead, we'll leave u guys to ur sweet carouselling (is there such a word) under the moon.....h hhehheh just kidding. Oh man I'm so glad someone put this idea into action...kudos Howie. Okay let's see what I can contribute.
I can provide a 6-man (really huge) A-frame, but don't think it's wanted now considering the high availability of tents that we have now. Have a portable CD player/radio too, but I'm worried about the rain. Are we pitching in at Noordin? When it rains, everything'll get wet... If someone can suggest a good remedy to that I'll bring the player (cos the player isn't mine in the first place I can't afford to damage it).
About buying stuffs on Friday, afraid that I can't join you guys, cos you know, Friday, Xmas Eve, that kinda stuff..hehheh..hope you'll understand lar.

Oh about Abandonware, I was searching on the net for old games but I didn't know they are classified as Abandonware until I chanced upon Xinyan's list in Ecircles. Followed the link and WOW, all those games I dearly missed!
Got to recommend some real classics, if you've been growing up with 386, 486s you shouldn't be alien to these: Monkey Island I, Monkey Island II LeChuck's Revenge, Maniac Mansion II Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
If Songhai remembers, these were the games which accompanied us through those wild gaming years in RI. BTW these are Adventure games by LucasArts, and they are evergreens. I still haven't got sick of them. The music is superb even tho technology at that time would only offer MIDI, nevertheless it would a great plus point at that time. The music tracks of the Monkey Island series are excellent, Caribbean Music, that of pirates and grogs and pieces of eights.
And I don't think there will be any problems with too fast a processor speed since adventure games dun deal with speed that much.
Well, enjoy those evergreens.

Downloaded some "abandonware" today.. games like Tapper, Alley Cat, PAC Man, RTK2 etc... was surprised at how small these files are compared to the mp3s that we are downloading now.... image PAC Man is just 18Kb, But a sad thing was that I could not play most of the games. Reason? Cos the computer was too fast. Sigh... seems like I will never get to play Tapper again. How frustrating!

If you did worse than expected... Its time to go get the Appeals Form from the office and get the marker to recheck his calculations... He's the one who got it all wrong...

We are anxiously awaiting the next issue of Theresa's travelogues. Erm Xinyan, as for the planning thing, theresa and me were mainly working on getting us there and a roof over our heads and we thought the activities would take care of themselves, which t ey did, mostly. Wenyi was suggesting a biking trip in Malaysia which sounds really interesting- if we can somehow find a day to go. About Ubin, hows about a weekday next week? Go there and cycle. Hmm...in spite of the recent article on problems that guys ace when mountain biking... We'll talk about on Saturday yes? I had to miss the squash session- I wuz busy being buried in a sea of kids. (as a helper for my church's chidren's camp) If we could somehow hook them to a generator the world's energy problems would be solved. Quite exhausting trying to organise the 16 hyper kids, thankfully it wasn't mainly my problem. It was really really enjoyable and I thank God for those 4 1/2 days, with its frustrations (why do the boys keep trying to kill one another?) s inky rooms (try living in a roomful of 5-12 year old boys) and extremely huggable and perceptive kids.

hey! hi! I was wating for a xinyan entry before i wrote this cos i like the way she describes events. So i started writing one in my mailbox cos it wd be really long but am taking ten years to complete it. And now it is already tuesday. So it's quite late but nevermind yah. This is my account of the highlights anyway. ahem
On monday, we met at bedok mrt to troop together to tanah merah ferry terminal. Unfortuantely xinyan didn't know about it and so half an hour before the ferry was due to leave xinyan was still nowhere in sight. So, did she go? YES! she flew in suddenly an asked worriedly,"Hey my taxi driver said this terminal cannot go desaru you know. are you sure we can?" After setting the taxi driver right, we excitedly boarded the ferry. This was one claustrophobic affair. These were well-furnished but you can't look ut the window cos it has dirt encrusted as patterns in the glass, much less climb on deck to soak in the sea and sky cos there ain't no deck. 45minutes later we arrived at this jetty where there was the smallest customs counter I have ever seen. THEN we w re packed into a SIX-seater to be deposited at our hotel. Have you noted the seamlessness of the whole thing? amazing, huh? 6-seater some more. The initial section of the trip was peppered with huge golf courses, so fakeo. After dumping our stuff in the r om, we gathered up enough energy to find lunch. Here we made another discovery. Accomodation and transport was so cheap (S$30 each per person) because the food was not! 8 singapore dollars per dish! So we determinedly cycled our way to a much cheaper dinn r. Here the menu was entirely in malay and there were 6 unsure but hopeful people ordering. telur means egg! The night was spent playing table-tennis (lots of unsuspercted talent here) and watching lots of tv. tcs 5, i am embarrassed to say.
The next morning was the highlight! The beach was closed because it was kinda rough, so poof! went any visions we were having of windsurfing gracefully along the horizon. But we climbed into the sea and before long were tossing ourselves into the waves wi h abandon, and this was followed by Glide-Over-The-Wave with arms and legs outstretched, first head on, then backwards. And you can feel yourself falling along the contour of the wave. We tried the legs-first version too but that yielded some embarassing esults. It was terribly fun. I don't remember doing anything with such abandonment for so long.
This was followed by more table-tennis, then dinner at a seafood restaurant. The only food from the sea was 3 1/4 crabs and a little bowl of sharks' fin s up which we ate very carefully cos we were mostly broke and that was extremely precious. I don't know what happened after that cos i promptly fell asleep. The next day we woke up so late it was time to check out already.
Well this probably describes it. Wasn't sure if you all wanted to read it, but maybe you did? So i wrote it anyway. Oh, lastly, it was exceptionally sunny and i thought it just happened to be a break in the endless rain but when i came home i realised it ad rained in singapore so we were really quite lucky. Okay, i'm done.

I dunno... I've actually heard some very negative things about this guy and someone totally didn't hesitate to call him an asshole. I don't know if it's unfair to be less sensitive cause the guy is well... not-so-nice, to put it politely. But I can't help it either. Personally, i don't think it's wrong to have the reaction that you had. I think that maybe if I were you, I would have had a similiar reaction. Though I wouldn't use the word disgusted.
I don't think there is a right or wrong anyway. I mean.. this sort of thing, isn't it all about personal values. If you happen to be more liberal-minded about this sort of thing, then you won't be so offended. If not, there's nothing wrong about it what.. br>

Hello! As usual I come to know about the outing after it, hehe. I've come to a conclusion after some thinking, the job of being an escort itself is not disgusting, it depends on the person. the beach was fun, let's go again when it's not closed, with more money to try out ALL the sea sports stuff. and let's cycle without difficulty! and play beach soccer like pros! (i can't kick for nuts).

Ok ok I know you guys are going to bomb me....fact is that I'm supposed to finish by 8 last nite, but we dragged til about 10+. And my hp batt was flat, I din off it. So sorry to have miss it, once again, I'll definitely leave next SAT free now that you " ooked" it in advanced...for yesterday, I had something lined up already before I knew about the gathering.
Bear with me, I got to lament here: I got to take IPPT!! Now that's not so much to lament about right? But the problem is, I was only informed like 5-6 days in advanced. My test date is the coming Thursday. I haven't been seriously running since I disrupted, and my running fitness fell down the cliff. Ok that's my fault I admit, but I'd never expect to do PPT in the 4 yrs of studying cos we are not supposed to take it!
What's even more ridiculous is that only those who opted back for work needed to take IPPT, those slacking and enjoying life needn't! This holiday attachment is entirely voluntary, and us kind volunteers have to take IPPT. Absurd...Plus the fact of the 6 ays notice....this is utterly unfair.
Ok you guessed right that if I can pass easily I wouldn't be complaining so much.....true, the fact is that my running can't meet the pass mark...the rest like chin-up are ok....just my 2.4 needs lots of work...and I don't think 6 days is enough to build ack stamina and running fitness lost through 1 1/2 years of slacking.
Jason, the order came down right from AMD, Mindef. I can't do much retaliation. And I think failures need to do Remedial Training thrice a week, 2 hours each session, after work!
I'm so fed-up with this nonsense....in the meantime I'm running everyday....in hope that I'll pick up what I've lost...

We're back from Desaru! Pretty tired out and burnt out for some of us, but it was a fun trip anyway. Especially the rare appearance from Xinyan and her tales of Mr. Tan. Was a really pleasant get-together despite the small number.
Ok here's the more impt thing: Haoyang suggests a major gathering this Saturday. We request for all who can make it to please try to come. Put a big cross over that day in ur calendar, that it's taken. It'll most prob be in the evening, starting off with a dinner. Then HY says we go bowling somewhere....

feeling pretty zonked after a full 7+ days incamp 24 hours. Tho I did manage to watch all 12 disks of GTO... but it was still a pleasant surprise to see the new page design plus the huge new load of entires. We got a clock, guys! Yes I call it the triclock cos it's capable of displaying time of 3 different zones. TRICLOCK is courtesy of Xinyan, who has worked hard to make it work. TRICLOCK will be upgraded to QUADCLOCK soon to include California time. Xinyan is still working on it.....
Also got to mention that Jason has also contributed a similar clock, but since Xinyan got there first, we'll use hers. Just want to give credit to the two QUARTERMASTER/MISTRESS!

I think the error thing, can't be helped one, I always get them, it's supposed to mean tt the page u're accessing's got some javascript programming error, but i dun think so. If I din remember wrongly, javascript was started by netscape pp, so IE and java cript got some sort of incompatibility tt the microsoft pp haven't figured out yet. The earlier versions of IE couldn't even read javascript, something like tt.......I hope i din get it the other way round.......*grin*

by the way, some of our old entries are floating about in cyberspace, i mean, i just went to search for the online conv at geocities by searching for weikai (this is another comp, no bookmark), and i got to read some of the really really old entries. try t. i wonder how to prevent this....

anyway, i declare 14th nov my most unlucky day. i must pour my sorrows out here. uall must listen to me patiently........

uall know right, having not exercised properly for 2 years and looking pasty white, i decided to revisit pulau ubin. So i went, w th 3 other frens. All was fine and we were enjoying ourselves when the sky became ominously cloudy. So, we decided to seek shelter at the hut between Kampong Melayu and the Last House. Remember tt hut? little hut by the sea just after the very small but q ite steep slope. they tore it down and rebuilt it so it's a bit bigger now. tt's when.....we met HIM!

Mr. tan, 55 yrs old, ranger of some singapore nature society or some nonsense, member of some mountaineering club in singapore, hater of PAP hater of sissys, blah blah, bleah!

anyway, back to the story, we were there in the nice little hut with our bikes when tt irritating, obnoxious mr tan came with an american couple in tow (the couple was alright). When he saw us, he asked us where we were headed. I replied tt we were going o the last house not knowing what else to call it. To my surprise, he said they were headed the same way, and asked us to join them. since we were there to wait out the rain, we said no. However, the great mr tan was a person who wouldn't take no for an a swer, oh no! he taunted us by saying we're not made of sugar and tt we're orchard-road-going city-kids who knew nothing about nature, yes, those were the exact words. Well, so, we fell for his trick, what do you expect, and followed him. Ten minutes later the sky was pouring, complete with lightning and thunder, and it was mr tan's turn to ask the group to seek shelter, clever man he, after we were all drenched. while at the shelter i overheard snippets of conversation he had with the two americans, impre sing them with his "outdoor knowledge". and get this, he was telling them about 'two girls who drowned while trying to get a certificate'. By this time i was really sick and tired of the man and was trying to think of ways to be rid of him. Unfortunately he rain. we waited about ten minutes, and, seeing the rain is not going to lessen, he ordered us back to our bikes and we continued on our way. soon, we neared the last house but instead of continuing on, he turned in at the fence. after his proud proclam tion to the americans tt tah-dah, we have reached the last house, i said no. this is not our last house. i think he was pissed, but i explained tt the last house was but a nickname, and he probably din know what it was. anyway, since tt was not our last h use, we wanted to part ways and go by ourselves, unfortunately mr tan insisted he knew where the last house was, and insisted on leading the way. so we went, past the last house, to another one further away. again to his proud proclamation i said no, and t we've past it. i think the americans were losing confidence in him, because five minutes later they made some excuses and were gone. i think he was now *really* pissed at me. we started arguing from tt point on. we turned back to go back to the jetty, w th him leading of course. on the way back, the youngest member of our group, a 12 year old boy, got himself a deep scratch. a scratch, i admit but bleeding fast, nonetheless. we stopped to tend to his wounds, but mr tan urged us on. he said tt tending to ounds were for sissies and weak city kids and we youngsters didn't know what a real wound was. after we insisted on stopping the bleeding he said some nonsense about the boy growing up to be gay. i argued with him. he said i didn't know what gays were, i aid gays were homosexuals, and he said no, i shut up. on the way back he also insisted on deviating from the road to show us "places we've never seen b4" (orchid farm, kg mamman, quarry), i said no thanx, we've been there b4, and he said impossible, so we went, anyway. he also insulted the everest expedition and the antartica expedition. he said they were planned by ego-maniacs who didn't know what they were doing and these were gimmicks for the PAP. i said he was talking nonsense, he said i was a PAP supp rter. he also claimed tt the everest expedition eas not recognised by world mountaineering assoc. or something like tt, because they broke some rules while climbing. he said it was all to nought, i argued tt it was a personal triumph and world recognisati n was not important, he said i was brainwashed. he continued insulting the everst team and i said no, they're not like tt, saying i know 1 of them (mr. leong). he said i was a youngster who didn't know anything. the last straw came at changi village, wher we unluckily met him again. get this, he commented on the BTC incident last year and called the teachers in charge ego-maniacs (limited vocab) and said lots of other things, even tho' he didn't know what happened. i kept quiet, tired of arguing with him he whole day on ubin, but i felt really sorry for not having said something about it to him. i guess i felt inadequate to defend mr. leong coz i was not there at tt time. anyway, this thing's been troubling me a long time and it felt much much better at h ving voiced it all out here, whew!

one last thing, i hope this mr tan is not any of ur daddy.........

Who is interested in going to desaru next week, 22nd-24th (yah that's just next week, i know, exams what, what to do, hmm?). So far, people who can go are me, wenyi, weikai, jeremy, joshua. rite? we can take a ferry there from changi f rry terminal, costs $40 return trip. then accomodation is $100 (not each) for the chalet per night. yes.. typo from me. It's Chu1 Lu4. TCS's translation is "stepping out" but personally,i think it's a rathe lousy translation. I mean... it totally doesn't capture what the term "chu1 Lu4" meant to all those immigrants. And it's not a historical show lah. t's just set in those times, but it's just like other TCS shows -- got romance, broken hearts, injustice, the good guys getting downtrodden by bad guys, a rich heir who doesn't know anything other than to eat drink and make merry, until his fortune turns n him and causes his downfall.. that kind of thing. I've only watched 4 episodes, so I don't know much of the plot, but I personally like "Xu2 Mei3 Zhen1", so I kinda like the show so far. Got quite sad cause she just died in the 4th episode. Or at least think so... must be lah...got shot point-blank.. a bit hard not to die... I heard that the freshmen over here are REALLY into PCK and some show called Coup de Scorpion. I dunno what it's about but it actually sounds like a rather poor attempt to sound fr nch and chic. "cour de scorpion"??? what kind of a name is that??? anyway, I guess I have to go do work now. I think you people al finish exams already, right? Lucky. I got a long way to go. Oh well...

Jason ah, the scanner cover should be able to be lifted up (or at least inclined) to accomodate a 3d object rite? In addition to that my scanner is supposed to be able to capture 3d dimensions and perspectives, as what they boast on the box. And I don't really understand how to put the time thing noe...are there applets or programs or free such clocks on the net? If got, maybe you can tell me more about it? Or if you like, you can do the update! I'll send u the password if you are interested. And yes, there is quite some space left below big Kenny.
Jason you using such a high resolution...means you will see some discontinuity in the background image rite? Cos my background image width quite short only. Like that quite ugly right?

Harros! Yeah when you see changes to the page means my exams are over...YaY! What a relief...
Before anything, if you see a weird layout, it prob means you are still accessing geobook.html. Change the add from geobook.html to conv.html, as mentioned in the mail I've sent you guys. In geobook.html, you can't add entries and view past entries etc...so please make the change =).
This page is optimised for 800x600 resolution, and a "clean" browser, means without frill menu bars cluttering the browser. Rotating Kenny may appear below the title "conversations" if your browser width isn't wide enough.
Ok, that's all the tech stuff, you must be asking "WHY KENNY?!" Heh no particular reason, just that I was thinking of a new theme then I saw my cutey Kenny Squeezy lying on my table. And guys, I think it's damn cute! You should see how it looks like when squashed. It's a stress-ball kinda thing. But anyway I managed to scan it in, even mugshot style, and put together an animated gif. I don't actually watch Southpark, but Kenny IS cute. Except for the fact that he dies all the time.
This new layout is a frame thingy...tot maybe it's easier to navigate or something, so gave it a shot. You can add new entries, read past entries etc by torturing kenny by what the instructions state. Any problems accessing, please reflect to me!
I hope for a BIG B12 gathering soon too. In the meantime Theresa is planning for a Desaru thing. Think you guys shld hear from her soon.
