Vivien, nice to hear from you again. I must have been off touch with you for almost a year. The Adventure Quest thing sounds really cool but heh, qualification is difficult. I'd sure come in last for the orienteering segment, for those guys who know how I am.
I have been touring around a little. Will be leaving Sydney soon for Melbourne, then Tasmania, where I will embark on a short trek. Gonna be quite fun. Kinda sad that I'd be leaving Sydney soon, not coming back for a long time.
So, no more ODACIA, sigh, history repeats again. So is college day confirmed on 28 July? Goodie cos I can make it. But I'd half expect it to be not very successful, alike previous years. I'd try to be there anyway.
Talking about movies, watch Shrek! It's one cool movie, the funniest animated video I've watched since Toy Story 2. I laughed non-stop from beginning til end. Watched it twice somemore, and laughed at the same jokes twice. The soundtrack is cool too. A must watch. Watching Tomb Raider tonite, it better be good.
Siwei, go crash orientation or go ka cheow the uni pple...

Hmm ... where IS everybody? I guess overseas, or holidaying or somewhere in camps.. *sigh*. I'm bored. I think the fun of bumming is wearing off. I need something to do. I need a job (of course, after I get one, I'm sure that I"ll be wondering why I didn't do all the OTHER things I wanted to do while I still had the time to.. =P) But nonetheless... I should get a job. Anyone has suggestions as to what to do? =)
Someone write something. You won't believe the number of times I check this thing a day. I'm vegetating. I bet my tush is just getting fat from me sitting on it all day... That's bad... Anyone wants to watch a movie?
I'm so darned bored...

Hi people! It's been a long time ...hee..realised I so seldom add an entry that I din't noe I knew I had to log in for it! haha, was searching ard the page with my mouse pointer at those pictures in the title bar, looking for an "add entry" hyperlink that used to be on kenny's eye... well, it's also my first time experiementing with the smileys..hee..so pls bear with me... I have also just ORDed from my IA, so a bit more free now....usually very tired after work...so seldom check my mail...or read conv... Besides, I have moved back home for the hols so no more free fast internet access for me for the moment...

Oh, I was looking at the People's association website...they are having this pretty interesting thing..."Adventure Quest" http://www.adventurequest.com.sg/ ...sounds so much like what we have done in odac...but it sounds really pro...actually wanted to find a grp of pple who are interested to just try for the experience with me...but well, firstly it's too late...past the date line, and secondly, I am starting to have doubts abt my outdoor skils, dun think i am still capable of all those that the have described as MINIMUM requirements! Sigh, when I read that thing it suddenly spurred my enthusiasism for outdoor stuff again... haha, how abt doing it next year?? regret not being more involved when i was younger... :P going on to 4th year oredi...feeling a bit old...and some of our batch pple are oredi starting work! unbelievable..

Anyway... yes the conv is working. =) I think everyone's just been busy with camps and stuff. (except for people like me who are just zuobo-ing at home and who read the conv at least twice a day, except that there usually isn't anything new to read. =p)

So, ODACIA is coming, are most of us going?? I was thinking it would be good if we can combine ODACIA and OP NOS, like go for ODACIA first, then we start our Op Nos after that. But guess it isn't a good idea since some people would not have been back yet.
Today's my last day of attachment.....ORD lor. Will be starting my tour very soon.

okay... Sentosa is out. Accomodation would prob be kind of tricky. Besides, some people have said that they are more in favor of a one day thing, and if we don't stay over, I think it's kind of expensive (and probably commercialised, like Weikai said). At press time, with 15 votes accounted for, quite a few more people seem to be in favor of Ubin than East Coast. Considering that we'll have to have it on a weekend, both places will probably be overrun by pests of the kiddish kind, but maybe Ubin less so. Sorrie to one or two who didn't actually want to go to Ubin.
So.... UBIN IT SHALL BE. (unless further developments force a vote recount =P).
As for the other getaway.. turns out that enthusiasm for that was (unfortunately) misgauged. So it won't really be much of a "getaway" as much as a pig-out-cum-'nuah'ing session in JB. =P. Whoever's up for that, it'll be this coming Monday. (18th)

Gift exchange names and stuff coming right up.. stay tuned... =P

Sentosa's actually alot of fun but not on weekends. We'll have problems staying over too.

Besides kukup and desaru we can goto batam. it's not thaaat far away and it should be quite fun there at the beach. Just a little more expensive.

anyway, just dun hold in end june or early july...that's when the school term starts and everyone's prob busy. August is still possible. We can go on national day holiday...

Wow Siwei...that was a really long one. Okay out of the four choices, I would choose Ubin as first choice and East Coast as second. Sentosa is out for me cos I think it is too commercialised for us to totally enjoy ourselves. Someone's house is good actually, but as usual it is difficult to find a place that can acomodate all of us.

I probably cannot make it for the June thing, but just some comments regarding Kukup. Yep Joshie's right, there isn't anything much you can do there, but it is a pretty good place for an one-night escapade. Sleeping in Kelongs, fishing, enjoying the breeze and stars, cheap seafood, etc. Should be quite worthwhile, for just one night and not any longer.

Marv, harhar I can imagine the person who is supposed to give you the gift for exchange....gonna spend so much on postage! Harhar....

Op Nos Update

Sorrie... Didn't mean to be loud =P, but I figured that if there are people who don't read the conv often, they might miss this entry if they're just skimming through the entries.
Ok. So I guess two Op Nos's (whatever the plural is) is out. I guess I understand that it does take away from the meaning of the event if there are two. So we won't.
Anyway, looks like it'll have to be end of July or August to accomodate as many people as possible. I wanted to have it as early into the school term as possible so that the local people won't be bogged down with work and won't have to miss it for want of time to finish last minute projects and stuff. But there are still people who haven't told me when you can/cannot make it *glare*... =P And two people who might/might not make it during this time period:
Theresa, are you coming back in July or August?
Yuhua, you said that you will probably be around in late August. How about earlier on? Lemme know your plans, ok? Thanks.. =)
Seems like a few people said that they just want a one day thing. In any case, after school starts, it'll have to be a weekend thing. So, one Saturday, with a possible stayover till Sunday if accomodations work out. People who work half a day on Saturday can join in after work, yah?

And the options are:
(1) East Coast
(2) Ubin (camping, probably. I'm not in favor of the ghastly chalets =P)
(3) Sentosa
(4) Last resort, someone's house
Four choices. Pick one. AND LET ME KNOW... ASAP
And indicate whether you want a stayover. I know there's still some time before August, but then if we want to book a chalet or anything, we'll have to do it soon (if it's still at all possible)

And yes we're having a gift exchange (except for people like Marvin who like it overseas so much that he doesn't want to come back the *entire* summer... =PPPP (just joking.. =)) That one's coming up, once people tell me if they're coming.

And seems like some people still want to have some sort of a getaway or some gathering earlier on, instead of waiting till August. We can still do that, slightly later in June. (hopefully everything falls together before 20th, cause either HQ or LorMee have some camp or something, but no
guarantees).
Two options:
(1) DESARU
Nice beach. Big waves (No Drowning Allowed). Scenic as far as I remember. Can take a boat from Changi and then either bike or take a cab or any other similiar four-wheeled creature to the place where we're staying, and then just hang out there. Play beach games, lounge around whatever. We can settle entertainment later

(2) KUKUP
I thought that this might be a nice place, but Josh says there's nothing much to do there. I guess he knows better, but I'll put it up anyway. Cause it's got nice seafood. If we just want a bonding experience, it doesn't matter if there's nothing to do there other than eat and maybe fish (????). It's 45 min by boat from the WTC (?) Somewhere down south lah. I forgot. Can drive if we want, but I don't see us having enough cars. Besides, it's prob slower and more congested.

Well.. whatever. Lemme know. Even sooner. ie. Think about it NOW and reply NOW if you're interested. Then I'll know where to go looking for transport and accomodation. And lemme know if you want comfy accomodation or something more "budget". Tentatively, I'm setting 18th and 19th, to give as much time as possible to plan. Objections? Voice them now or forever hold your peace.

FAQ
Q: By when do I need to give a reply?
A: NOW! now now now now now.... ! (If you have unsettled plans, at least tell me so that I know what to expect and have a rough idea)

Q: Where do I send my reply?
A: If you don't have my email, it's sy.wei@cornell.edu Or post it here on the Onlineconv. Or if you need to talk in person to a sales representative, please contact our chief customer representative at 65-489-5713. (or her trusty assistant, the Joshua-Kumquat, at 384-2971)

Q: Do I have to go?
A: No, but if you would rather not be decapitated and have all four limbs torn from you and sent to the four corners of the world.....

Q: Do I get a prize for reading so far?
A: No. But let it be known that I think you're cool. =) Or bohliao like me. Or both. =)

Since the cat has been out of the bag....i figured there's really point in denying. So there IS someone i've been seeing. But unlike HQ, i wun call her "my girl". There's this terribly mushy ring to it.
Makes my hair stand and my skin crawl.

Like scratchy nails on chalkboard.

But unlike HQ, my situation tends to be on the opposite side of the coin. I seem to have a terribly understanding companion who can bear alot of shit. Which makes me a very fortunate guy. For now.

Can't help but talk more about HQ and I. Well, for one thing, we've gone thru alot of shit together. And our experiences share an uncanny resemblance to each other. Us being roommates. JCRC. School. Fucked up school grades. Girlfriends who are from RJ. Girlfriends who have some weird connection to each other. We are inextricably linked. Except that in the case of relationships, we seem to be in parallel dimensions of each other.

That's why i cannot help but be emotional abt my buddy HQ. I can't take his taking all the shit lying down. I dun think i've ever yelled at someone more this past year than HQ. And to be yelled back.

Well, bedfellows will always share lotsa stuff with each other.

But looks like it's all gonna change. We'll be moving out. Single rooms. Different blocks. Totally different tutorials and subjects.
(But we are both trying our best to get out of our fucked up grades situation.)
Time to get divorced and split the furniture. At least it's an amicable disassembly. Time to pick up the pieces and just get on with life.

For now, HQ and I admit shamelessly that we have nothing much else on our minds nowadays except for the thoughts of the other person. Which i do hope will be a passing phase for me.

Not too sure for HQ. Think he's got his hands full for quite a bit more. Which is also a good sign coz it simply means he's still hanging in there.

It really ain't over till the pasty white lady sings. Good lucko el friendo...

For those who've read this long entry... i just wanted to write this coz it's been a while since anyone really wrote down any deep feelings and sentiments about their lives besides Weikai a few entries back. Get some of the "conversations" feel back.

to end off, when will Ops Nos finally be??...i really can't wait. But I'll prob be busy from 25 June onwards till school starts which is the 2nd week of July for me. So...let's just bring it on yeah?

Hey Siwei thanks for all the Op Nos stuffs so far, they sound good. I would take a pass for the overseas trip cos it is very very troublesome for me to apply for an exit permit (because of my regular status). And if you guys are planning to do it in June I won't be back then anyway, so I suppose I'll have to be out for that.

But I'll definitely want to have a one-day thing somewhere in July/August. I'd really prefer Ubin or someone's else, although we do that almost every year. Somehow I think I will enjoy Op Nos better and more wholistically if we do that. Just my opinion.

I've made some alterations to my travel plans, I'll be back in Singapore only on the 18th of July.

Hi people...
what do you guys think of having two Op Nos? I was thinking one in June, where we can go somewhere else, like M'sia or Indonesia or something. Basically something that's more than a one-day affair. And another where we just gather at someone's house, and that can be in early August or Mid August. Cause by that time, all the local people would have started school and may not be able to spare more than one evening. But then if it's any earlier, seems like quite a few people won't be around. Well.. lemme know. And Update your particulars!!! I'm trying to come up with a updated contact list.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that if the sy.wei@cornell.edu addy doesn't work, you can try SL150@cornell.edu. It's the same account, really.
And as for Op Nos, Josh and I were talking about it, here are a few preliminary suggestions
Option #1: go to Sentosa. There's this A Capella concert that's being held there on June 23rd/24th, in conjunction with the Arts Feste. We could go there and spend the day or the weekend there, and work that into our lil "schedule"
THere's another thing at Sentosa on another day --June 16th. It's some "party" thingy... with music as the theme.... (?) Added a lil blurb from the website:
"Held in conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival, the E-Zone Summer Party 2001 invites the youngsters of Singapore to a mega-arts party that encompasses three different 'zones'. Each unique zone will be linked by a common theme - music. Progressive club music dished out by local and international DJs from UK and Australia mingle with the music of local bands such as Concave Scream and Headpoppaz, while home-grown poets, musicians, singers and artists perform their bite-sized works all through the night. A perfect place to party, hang out, and chill out."

Option #2:
JB. Get a pig-out-cum hang-out cum shopping session.
(There isn't any problem with exit permits, right?)

Option #3:
Some nice resort thingy somewhere for a weekend.. Prob m'sia or Bintan or something.

Option #4:
Someone's house. (As usual...=P) I don't know whose, though.. we need a volunteer.

Option #5:
Ubin. Either a campout session or a nice resort session, though I think that if we wanted a resort, there are better places to go....

Well.. that's all I can think of right now. Part of it was Josh's idea.
Another thing.. anyone interested in Arts Feste stuff? More specifically, there are things going on at Waterloo street this weekend (other things can come later, I guess). Anyone wants to go for this or other stuff.. call me.. =) Dowan to go alone. Check out the arts fest website: www.artsfest.nac.gov.sg

Huaquan, that's the sacrifice you have to make once you get into a relationship. No matter how much you balance your life, you will definitely do less of something you used to do. But ask yourself if it is worth it, and if it is, then what the heck. I'm a free man now, and I'm picking up the things that I've dropped along the way. It is, in a way, a good feeling. Free of worries and burden. Freedom.

Yesterday was the last day I went out with Haoyang and Weiliang (his NTU friend and my primary sch mate). Today they will be going to the Blue Mountains and tomorrow, Brisbane. Have had a great weekend with them, simply refreshing. Will put up some pictures we took over the weekends, as soon as I can.

Well... I don't remember seeing anyone else swap seats back in Singapore. But I once swapped seats with somebody so he/she could sit with his/her friend. I can't remember if I did that here or back home.

It's way past my bedtime. Byez!

Hey Siwei, I'll be back on June 30, and leaving again on September 6. Thanks for Op Nos! Right now I'm still having my project, actually it has barely started, and I've got 4 weeks more to go... But the project is interesting though, have to design the entire new UC San Joaquin campus. Sounds like Sim City hor?

Speaking of Singaporeans, have any of you all ever seen anyone in Singapore give up their seats or change seats, say on the bus, so that you can sit with your friend? I've seen it happen before in London, and I really didn't believe it when I first saw it. Oh well.

But to enter the jazz bar you got to be in formal wear, at least shirt and pants and dress shoes. You've got all those right? And bring some form of age ID in case they check.

When you reach Sydney on Thursday, give me a call to arrange for the next day okay?

Hey Jason, that flash thing is way cool! Very zai, fluid animation and realistic motions, from stick figures! I wonder how long it took the author to create that in flash. Got any more of this flash stuff? I got one at www.mald.com.
Haoyang, please call me at 95650837 (9am to 5pm) or 91307635 (other times) ASAP. Did you bring your mobile on roaming? That will make it easier for me to get in touch with you.
Need to find out from you what you intend to do when you come over. 24th is a weekday I suppose and I've got to work. But if you want, I can always take leave (got 1 day left), then I'll show you around. The thing is you are arriving in noon, by the time you settle down (ur bro's place or hotel?) and all that, there won't be much time to do anything actually.
And also, do you intend to stick to your bro most of the time? I can bring you around on Saturday in the day, and at night we'll go to a jazz bar with my friends here. What do you say? Really need you to tell me your rough itinerary so that I know what I can do for you. Either ring me or drop me an email alright? Shall hear from you.

Good to hear from the Viet Dongs (Vietnam Ding Dongs) So you guys are starting on Fan Si Pan really soon I suppose?
For those who are very free (after exams, tired of exams etc), I've got an interesting read here. These articles were put up on the FedEx intranet. Basically BusinessWeek published a biased article comparing UPS (own largest competitor) and FedEx. So FedEx wrote a letter to the editor in protest, and also published an article on the intranet to inform FedEx employees of the inaccuracies of that BusinessWeek report.
Well I don't know who's really wrong and who's really right and which part's wrong and which part's right. But the articles are really interesting. Tells a lot about the power of media (mass comm students should learn from this).
psss by the way don't spread the articles, just read it for your own knowledge. You know the reason why.

Arrived on the morning train and leaving on the night train to Lao Cai. So far we've been mostly eating and loafing. Snorkeling, visiting waterfalls, lotsa walking aimlessly, some Counterstrike, sitting on beaches. Everybody learned to ride a motorbike in busy traffic here, pretty exciting due to total disregard of traffic rules. Okay hq I think I ca remember the thing.

Hmm my opinions:
1) It's not a SIN for girls to be fat. Girls don't live for guys. It is only sinful if you betray yourself. So if girls like to eat lots and be fat and not exercise, it's just a health issue. The sin part is terribly irrelevant.
2) Not all guys like thin girls. I don't. I like girls with that little bit more flesh, between 'plump' and thin. I think one doesn't look too good if too thin, not nice to hug too Anyways that's just my opinion, and the "girls don't live for guys" motion still stands.
3) It's really in a person's character, tho this has been cliched countless times. I'm sure we have all experienced meeting people who may look ordinary or fat or watever, but the charm and character are mesmerising. Aesthetic appeal usually counts during first impressions.
4) That guy who said that must be someone really immature, he probably judges his friends in a similar way he judges girls. Not worth a friendship, I'd say....
