Off to a great start, we are. These gorgeous roosters were shot over Tustin's points, his first trip afield for the big birds. He got help from Remy, but did so well on his own I'm convinced Manfred's spirit has taken up residence.
Two proud birddogs survey the landscape for likely pheasant hideaways.....
Remy's buddy Zeke shows how to handle chukar partridge during an early season training outing.
My 2003 six-point buck, a 150 pound 1 1/2 year old. He came out of this woodlot at 9:30 on opening morning, chasing 3 does. They slipped into the pines on the south side of the property, but he lagged in the open long enough to catch one from the Big 7.
While this image doesn't do credit to the trophy, it illustrates the landscape at the Prairie. Rolling open grasslands, broken by cropfields and woodlots. You can see a couple of the numerous "potholes" that punctuate the area, natural attractants for all game as convenient water sources.
Remy and Tustin pair up on some roosters, December 15.
Wayne and his 7 month old Weim, Ghost, join in.
