Beikoku Shido-kan Association National Training Seminar Attendees, July 26 - 28, 2002

From left: Hanshi Seikichi Iha, 10 Dan, Director, North American Beikoku Shidokan Association, Dave, 6 Kyu New-to-Style, Kyoshi Koichi Nakasone, 8 Dan. I'm told that Nakasone-sensei was a big time Okinawan full-contact champion for several years running. Now his students are the adult male, adult female, and youth male champions. And he's the kindest, most gentle and good-humored man one could honestly hope to meet.

Well, I guess persistence pays off. After a layoff from training for a few years to go to law school and get fat, I'm back to my fighting weight of 170. I owe Rob, my sensei, on the right, and his wife Laura, a debt of gratitute I'll never be able to repay. The only way any student can show appreciation for a teacher's effort is to keep training hard. I figure that if my gi isn't soaked with sweat and I'm not too weak to stand up at the end of the night, I'm not putting out the effort. Never happen.
