James River (canoe/camp/fish) From Bent Creek to Scottsville The upper James River (above Richmond) is a campers dreamland. This part of the river is generally characterized by moving water with level one rapids and numerous islands. There are many areas suitable for camping. I quote a passersby who was Fly Fishing as we came upon him. "The best smallmouth bass fishing in the world" After several trips we agreed he would get no argument from us.
