In another show of creativity, Scout participants in the Philippine Centennial Scout Jamboree have reinvented the thumbs-up sign associated with Fidel V. Ramos' Philippines 2000 which originally means:" Kaya natin 'to."
Now, Scouts in all sub camps have adopted the thumbs-up sign, but are shouting: " Join Na!", after the media plug for the Scout Jamboree.
The said plug features, Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) Secretary Ricardo T. Gloria encouraging Scouts from all over the country to " join " the Jamboree.
The plug has been so widespread that, everywhere Secretary Gloria goes inside the camp, Scouts meet him and shout " join na!," flashing the thumbs-up sign. According to Secretary Gloria, the reaction to the plug was a " welcome surprise " for him.
" We have called on our Scouts and they have responded. It is so heartening to know that 33000 Scouts and Scouters, all potential leaders of this country, have responded to our call," said Secretary Gloria.
"THEIR RESPONSE HAS EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS. MORE NOTEWORTHY, HOWEVER, IS THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE TURNED OUR INVITATION INTO A BATTLE CRY, EXPRESSING THEIR VIGOR AND ENTHUSIASM AS sCOUTS."
The Secretary also added that the phrase "Join na!" pertains to a number of things, but all of them enjoining Filipinos to come and work together, like "Join na para sa matagumpay na Philippine Centennial Scout Jamboree" or "Join na para sa lalong ikalalakas ng Scouting Movement".
The movie and TV plug, which was released las December in order to generate
awareness and interest for the Centennial Jamboree, is being shown in selected
movie theaters and in all television stations nationwide. Then we
should draw up our strength and perseverance to do all we can to produce
quality leaders for our country.
