POSTIE ARRIVES
As you can see our postman is a little different from most. The Townsville RAAF base are the kind people that organise this air drop as a training drill for there pilots, unlike some other occasions the mail drop was successful and all our mail plus hot Macdonald's remained on dry land.
They passed over the island on 5 separate runs, dropping of mail each time in different contraptions, The bulk of the mail was dropped of in either of the two main containers with a parachute as seen above.
In these 2 photos you can see the mail being dropped of in boxes that have flaps on them, which make them rotate like helicopter blades. This is best illustrated on the left, unfortunately one of the boxes in the right photo did not spin and fall softly as planned - The result was 4 extremely squashed Big macs, but who cares when you have not had fast food for 3 months! |
Below you can see Pete, Michelle and I sitting on the parachute indulging is some unhealthy food. The other two photos show the unbelievable amount of mail that I got from everyone. The first photo is the 15 parcels I received before unwrapping them and the second photo is all the parcels contents. A huge, huge, huge thankyou for all the mail I received, it was absolutely overwhelming! Obviously my pleading for mail was successful, or was it the duty free shopping bribe that I offered in return. It was one of the best days ever, it took a full 5 hours to get through all the mail. I can honestly say that I did not realise how much I missed everyone until I read all my mail, it was truly excellent thankyou, infact it was the best Christmas I have ever had! A couple of the highlights of the mail was the three separate copies of the magazine 'inside sport' - but that's fine as the cover girl was worth it! The other highlight was the cards and pictures received form Lauren's grade 2 class in South Australia, It made me laugh and smile a lot so thankyou very much to Lauren, Claire & Holly, Hannah, Hayley, Danella, Rebecca, Justin, Alice, Thomas, Michael, Gabi, & Karl there were also a couple of pictures without names, so if you tell Lauren that I missed your name, then she can tell me and I will make sure I add them to the list, and Edward living on an island isn't boring - it's fun!
here is a picture of all the cards and pictures received form Lauren's grade 2 class, thanks again! | ![]() |
