Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads Bridge

Overview - There are many in fishing spots in and around Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads area, in this article I will be focusing on fishing from the bridge.  The bridge runs over the top of the Barwon River only a couple of hundred metres away from the mouth of River.  This makes it one of the best spots in Victoria for all Anglers, especially Anglers looking to improve upon their skills.  In the Summer months this spot is dynamite so you might have to fight for a postition on the bridge with many other holiday makers.  I found the best times for fishing the bridge to be around 10:00am and around 5:300pm.  Another factor of fishing the bridge is tides I find the best time to fish is on the in-coming tide.  As the current can be very strong on the change of tides you're best bet is to use a fixed rig, the Paternoster rig works best for me.  Especially when rigged with two hooks and baited with a pice of pippi and the tail of a white bait.  Many fish caught off the bridge are still juveniles so make sure you check the size of the fish to make sure it complies with Victorian regulations, I will also stress that you only take what you need!  While fishing the bridge on a number of occasions I have experienced first hand seeing some of the "GREEDY" anglers at work taking buckets full of undersized fish.  This is why I always stress the fact that you only take what you need!  With all that behind us there are many opputunities to nail some great pan size mullet and Aussie Salmon.

I will admit I have never caught a Mulloway or even seen a Mulloway caught from the bridge but I have heard plenty about it.  I once read an ariticle in the local paper down there about two anglers who nailed trophy sized Mulloway from the Bridge.  The most common methods are live baiting Mullet or trolling lures which involves having a boat, so I suggest you use the first option.
