Arrow of Light Ceremony

Cubmaster: Our Second year Webelos have brought a great honor to Pack 157 this year as they have climbed the Scouting trail together. They have worked hard on activity badges and have attained Cub Scoutings highest award, the Arrow of Light. Through the years, the parents and leaders of Pack 157 have tried to instill in these boys the seven virtues of life that Scouting promotes. These virtues form a bridge that will help these boys become good citizens.

Would the following boys and their parent please come forward:

Read names

As I read the seven virtues would you please take turns and light the seven Candles on the Arrow of Light.

Wisdom: Having wisdom doesn't mean that a person is smarter than others. It means that he uses what he knows to live a better life.

Courage: Courage does not mean you have no fear of danger. It means you can face danger despite your fear.

Self-Control: This means being able to stop when you have had enough of something, such as eating, playing, or even working too much.

Justice: Justice means being fair with others we play and work with, regardless of who they are.

Faith: Faith in God and things we can not see but feel are true.

Hope: Hope means to look forward to good things you believe will happen. You hope for better things tomorrow, but at the same time you work hard today to make them happen.

Love: There are many kinds of love. Love of family, home, fellow man, God, & Country. Every kind of love is important for a full and happy life.

You will find that if you live by these seven virtues, your life will be happier.

It is now my pleasure to present your Arrow of Light Award. Your parent can pin it on your uniform.

Crossing the Bridge:

Cubmaster: Tonight you are all leaving the Pack to enter Boy Scouting. I'm sure you will find the same satisfactions there that you have found in Cub Scouts. As I call your name please walk over to me so that I may remove your Cub Scout neckerchief. You will then cross the bridge into Boy Scouting with your parent, to be welcomed by Scoutmaster _____________of Troop ___.

Boys cross the bridge with a parent.

Scoutmaster: (Greets Webelos and parents with a handshake) As Scoutmaster of Troop ___ it is a pleasure to welcome you. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

(To boy) And now I present you with this Boy Scout neckerchief. (place round boys neck.) May you wear it with pride; its colors are those of Troop ___, which welcomes you as its newest member.

(After all have crossed the bridge)

Scoutmaster: Please give these fine young men a hand.

(All exit)
