Submission

There are several places that will take your hard-earned money and submit your web site to a search engine. I've decided to learn how to do this myself.
Before you add a web page to a search engine, first make sure your site is ready.
My first successful submission was with Alta Vista. That's where we'll start.

Alta Vista

Go to www.altavista.com start page.
On August 4, 1999, the link add a page is at the very bottom in small letters.
Now you are on the "Adding Pages or URLs to the Index" page
If you like, read the instructions.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Type the complete URL address in the form box at the bottom.
Click the "submit" button.

That's all there is to it.
If all goes well, you'll receive a confirmation that your page is retrieved and will be indexed in the next couple of days.

For example, the confirmation I received:

You have submitted the following URL:
http://www.angelfire.com/ak/faith7/engine.html

The page was fetched in 0.085 seconds and will be indexed within a day or two.
This URL has been recorded by our robot.

If your page is not retreived, check the spelling and punctuation of your URL address, and then try again.

For example, the confirmation I received:

You have submitted the following URL:
http://www.angelfire.com/ak/faith7/not-uploaded.html

We received an error 404, this page is no longer valid.
The page, if already indexed, will be removed from the index.

Alta Vista will not index a page that has not been uploaded to a server.
Alta Vista

supports Meta Tags
uses a robot to index web pages (that means a machine does it, not a person)
will remove previously submitted pages.
