       Bess is in ICU," Howard told me, "We almost lost her."


       I worried that Bess wasn't going to get her wish to die at home.  I hoped the family wouldn't hold onto her and try to keep her alive.  I know that we all wanted to keep her alive, but would it be fair to keep her alive with machines?  I don't think she wanted that at all.


       She wanted to die at home surrounded by her family.  She had already stopped seeing visitors.  I think she wanted us to remember her as she was before the cancer ravaged her body.  I was so grateful for the April visit.
