Okay,
you are a brand new editor itching to get started. Where do you start? Or
you are thinking about applying to be an editor
but you'd like to know what is involved first.
- One quick way is to try this mini-Tutorial for new editors provided by dream ink.
See annotated screen shots of the
- editor's dashboard, also known as Editor Main,
- the category edit screen, and
- the entry edit screen.
Then take the tutorial quiz to see ODP editing in action.
- ODP Editing: The Quick & Dirty Guide, Or, the Top Ten ODP dos and don'ts while editing the Open Directory categories.
- ODP Guidelines Editing Guidelines, open to the public
- Accepted editors are allowed access to forums.
A New Editor's Forum was added a few months after I volunteered. I recommend that new editors post here first before moving onto the other forums.
Tools for Editors, open to the public
- DMoz.org Open Directory Project: Unofficial FAQ.
The FAQ is a long document. I found myself too impatient to read the whole thing before my first edit. The FAQ is a must read eventually.
-
When I first began editing the Directory, I felt
overwhelmed with the enormous amount of information available to editors. Any question can probably be answered by doing research.
Gradually, I've added each tool. My favorite addition so far are the Bookmarklets.
