    COUNTER

  • Coupe de la Jeunesse, 1999.

Three Jes oarsmen were selected to row for Ireland in the Coupe de la Jeunesse, held in Inniscarra, Co. Cork this year. One of them, Padraig Bracken, won four gold medals in the eights and fours events.

The Coupe de la Jeunesse is the European Junior Rowing Championships. This year eight countries took part, Ireland, UK, Italy, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium. The racing took place on the reservoir at Inniscarra, Co. Cork in Ireland and this certainly proved to be one of Irelands better years at the competition. All events were raced on Saturday the 31st July and again on Sunday the 1st August as is usual at the Coupe.

Padraig Bracken, Dominic Burke and Marc Stephens were selected from the Jes to represent Ireland at the Coupe. All three raced very well in their respective events. Marc and Dominic didn't pick up any gold medals but did contribute to Irelands' points total over the weekend. Padraig was on the winning eight and coxless four on both Saturday and Sunday. All three oarsmen should be very proud of their achievements.
