State Parks in Central Mississippi

General Park Information
An entry fee is charged at most state parks. Office hours are
8 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, year-round.
As a rule, day use visitors may use parks between 5 a.m. and
10 p.m., but these hours vary at some parks, and visitors may want
to call ahead. Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Facilities for the physically challenged are available. Contact
individual parks for additional information.
Special events are scheduled at most parks throughout the
year.
RULES AND REGULATIONS are available at park offices.
Visitors should familiarize themselves with all park rules.
PETS are permitted ONLY in the day-use and campground
areas . They must be on a leash (maximum length six feet).
Owners with dangerous or disturbing pets (especially barking
dogs) may be asked to leave the park. Pets ARE NOT permitted in
or around the cabins.
ANNUAL PASSES may be purchased only by Mississippi residents
and are accepted at all Mississippi state parks during the calendar
year of purchase. Passes are provided for overnight park guests.

SALES TAX.
CAMPING/RESERVATIONS & INFORMATION
DEVELOPED CAMPING: Reservations are accepted year-round
for a limited number of campsites. All other sites are available on
a first-come, first-served basis. A non-refundable, non-transferable
deposit pays for the first day and is required.
From Labor Day weekend to Memorial Day weekend, reservations
may be made at all parks for organized camping groups consisting
of 10 or more units. Contact individual parks for reservation
information.
Check in time is 4 p.m.; check-out time is 2 p.m.. Camping
reservations may be released if guests have not arrived by 2 p.m.
the day following the reservation date, unless prior arrangements
have been made with the park office.
No camping is allowed in the cabin areas.
CAMPING DISCOUNTS are available for persons 62 years or
older whose age is confirmed by driver s license or other identification.
Discount also applies to families whose head of household is
permanently disabled.
CAMPER STORAGE: Some parks have an area designated
for camper storage outside the campgrounds. The charge is $1 per
night. Owners of these units should have adequate insurance as the

RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE OR THEFT.
TENT CAMPING is available in designated areas. No utility
connection furnished. Comfort stations are located nearby, and a
fee is charged per tent, per night. Some parks offer special rates
to groups such as scouts, but the rates are per person, per night.
GROUP CAMPING facilities are available at many parks and
can accommodate 35 to 200 persons. Sleeping accommodations
are in separate dormitory facilities or small group cabins.
Campers furnish bed linens and bath articles. Meals are
served, cafeteria style, in the dining hall. Contact individual parks
for minimum requirements for number of group campers and
meals. Fees are charged per person, per meal and lodging, per
night.
CABIN RESERVATIONS/INFORMATION
CABIN STYLES
All cabins are classified by architectural styles.
Classifications are Deluxe (D), Standard (S) or Rustic (R). All
are heated and air-conditioned.
DELUXE CABINS are the newest and most modern. STANDARD
CABINS were constructed in the 1950’s and 1960’s and generally
are of brick or wood construction. RUSTIC CABINS were
originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in
the 1930’s and are built of stone or rough hewn wood.
CABIN reservations are strongly recommended. Minimum
length of stay is three nights during the summer season, Memorial
Day to Labor Day. One-night usage is permitted, pending availability
of cabins. Maximum length of stay is two weeks, and weekly
extensions are at the park manager’s discretion. Minimum length
of stay is two nights during other times of the year. Cabin reservations
are accepted at any time up to one year in advance.
Within 10 days of the request for a reservation, a deposit
must be received at the park. Deposits are non-refundable and
non-transferable. Check-in nine is 3 p.m. and check-out is 11
a.m. Arrangements may be made for late arrivals if guests are
arriving after 5 p.m. Cabin reservations may be released if guests
have not arrived by 11 a.m. the morning following the reservation
date, unless prior arrangements have been made with the park
office.
Each cabin is furnished with bed and bath linens, soap and
basic kitchen equipment (cooking utensils, dishes and flatware).

FOOD SERVICE
Complete food service is available for banquets, luncheons,
receptions and other functions at the following state parks: George
Payne Cossar, Great River Road, Holmes County, Hugh White, J.P.
Coleman, John Kyle, Leroy Percy, Paul B. Johnson. Percy Quin,
Roosevelt, Tishomingo, Tombigbee and Wall Doxey. Other state
parks have limited food-service capabilities. Contact the individual
parks for detailed information.

CASEY JONES MUSEUM

Museum honors Jonathan Luther “Casey Jones,” folk hero and engineer.
Mississippi railroading interpreted. 1923 oil burning steam engine

LAKE LOWNDES STATE PARK

Location: Six miles southeast of Columbus off MS 69
Lake Lowndes is a superb recreational complex including a visitor’s
center with game room, meeting rooms, indoor tennis, basketball and
volleyball. Outdoors are 3 softball fields with lights and 6
tennis courts. Tent camping. 4 cabins, 10 camping pads and a self-
guided nature trail are available.

HOLMES COUNTY STATE PARK

Location: Four miles south of Durant off I-55. Exit 150
The most centrally located of the state parks, Holmes County has
two fishing lakes, nature trail, amphitheater, skating rink, archery
range and group camp. The park offers tent camping, 12 cabin
units and 28 camping pads.

WINTERVILLE MOUNDS HISTORIC SITE

Location: 3 miles north of Greenville on Mississippi 1
Site of one of the largest Indian mound groups in the Mississippi
Valley. Believed to be the ceremonial site of predecessors of the
Choctaw and Chickasaw. Museum (fee). Picnicking.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wed. - Sat.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Monday and
Tuesday. No camping.

FLOREWOOD RIVER PLANTATION STATE PARK

Location: Two miles west of Greenwood off U.S. 82
Reproduction of 1850’s cotton plantation. Living history park with
historical interpreters. Seasonal activities (Mar. 1 through 1st
week in December). Admission fee.
Hours: Tues.- Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sun., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Monday,
Thanksgiving. Christmas and New Years Day.
Cotton Museum open year-round. No camping.

LEROY PERCY STATE PARK

Location: 5 miles west of Hollandale off Mississippi 12
The park encompasses a wildlife management area for hunting.
Other features are a visitor's center with fast-food service and
Sunday noon buffet, 8 cabins, a group camp for 10 persons, 16
camping pads, nature trail, swimming and a wildlife interpretive
center.

LeFLEUR’S BLUFF STATE PARK & GOLF COURSE

Location: I-55, Exit 98 B (Lakeland Drive), Jackson
LeFleur’s Bluff has 30 camping pads with water and electricity, a
central dump station, campground bathhouses, comfort stations, a
camp store with rest rooms and a deck overlooking Mayes Lake,
boat ramp, playground, nature trail, swimming pool, club house
containing park offices, meeting room with rest rooms, a picnic
area with barbecue grill, 3 large picnic pavilions and 4 tennis
courts. GOLF COURSE features 9 holes and a driving range.

LEGION STATE PARK

This rustic park maintains its original look, featuring 1930’s Civilian
Conservation Corp constructed Legion Lodge, a Mississippi
landmark. 3 rustic cabins, 2 fishing lakes, nature trail, picnic pavilion
and tent camping are available.

NANIH WAIYA HISTORIC SITE

Location: 12 miles east of Noxapater off Mississippi 490
Park site is the legendary birthplace of the Choctaw Indian nation
and site of their Sacred Mound, Nanih Waiya. Activity building,
picnic area.

CLARKCO STATE PARK

Location: 20 miles south of Meridian off U.S. 45
Clarkco is situated on 65-acre Clarkco Lake. Marked nature trails,
lighted tennis courts, large picnic pavilions, visitor’s center with
meeting rooms and camp store available. Clarkco has 43 improved
and 15 primitive camping pads and 15 cabins with individual
piers.

SAM DALE HISTORIC SITE

Location: 15 miles north of Meridian off Mississippi 39 at
Daleville
A 2 acre, day use area, built around a memorial to General Sam
Dale, a 19th century frontiersman and patriot. Focal point of site
is a bas-relief statue of Dale by the late Harry D. Reeks of Ocean
Springs. 4 picnic shelters, no rest room, no camping.

ROOSEVELT STATE PARK

Park has visitor's center with mini-convention center for up to
200, game room, group camping facilities for 104, 109 campsites,
20 lodge rooms with kitchenettes, 15 cabin units, tent camping in
designated areas, lighted tennis courts, nature/wildlife observation
area, 150 acre lake, water sports, miniature golf and multi-purpose
sports field.

GOLDEN MEMORIAL STATE PARK

Location: On Mississippi 492, five miles east of Walnut Grove off
Mississippi 35
Park memorializes post Civil War, one-room school once located on
the site. Picnic tables, grills, two picnic pavilions, nature trails, 15-
acre spring-fed lake stocked with bass and bream. Office and park
use hours: Wed. - Sun.. 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
