Some of my favorite mountains

This is part of the Blue Ridge in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. It's a beautiful area to explore, and the fall colors are incredible.

This is Wolf Rock, part of the Catoctins in Maryland. I spend a lot of time here when I feel the need for mountains because it's only a couple of hours from my home.

This is Pompeys Pillar - not quite a mountain, but famous because Clark (of the Lewis and Clark expedition) carved his name in it.

This is the Smoking Mountain in Yellowstone Park - thermal events (as they call it in the brochure) cause a constant steaming. You're not allowed to climb it, but it was pretty impressive - even from a distance.

My mother's family is from New Hampshire and Maine, so my love of mountains may be genetic *smile*. My grandmother still lives in NH, about an hour south of the White Mountains.

Another shot of the White Mtns. It's funny how some things get taken for granted - with all the time I've spent up there, these are the only pictures I'd taken of the mountains. I'll try to do better with my next visit.

This is the island of Martinique. There are two types of islands in the caribbean - coral and volcanic. It was easy choice for me, because even on a Caribbean vacation, I need my mountains.

These are the mountains of the greek island of Crete. This was an amazing place, full of magic, with ancient ruins and the clearest sky I've ever seen.

The Yucatan peninsula of Mexico is very flat, so I had to make do with this pyramid in Coba.
