Start/Finish area:

Paddlers will proceed from the staging area to the start/finish line underneath the Mopac Bridge which is approximately 300 meters east of the UT Women's Crew facility or turning left as paddlers leave the docks.  Viewing is available from the shore or from the pedestrian bridge underneath the MoPac main spans.  Some parking, restrooms and drinking water are available at the adjacent tennis complex.

Portage area:

The portage area will be at the Texas Rowing Center approximately 150 meters east of the MoPac bridge on the north shore.  The Texas Rowing Center is located in Stephen F. Austin Drive and across the street from the Austin High School running track.  Viewing and some parking is available.

Other viewing areas:

Red Bud Island Park has limited parking and is the view point for the upstream buoy.  A jogging trail on both shores follows the entire course from MoPac east to the Congress Avenue downstream turn.  Several parking spots are found on both shorelines and pedestrian bridges cross the lake at MoPac, Lamar Ave. South First Street and Congress Ave.

The Race Course Route:

The course will consist of three 10 kilometer loops on the west end of Town Lake in downtown Austin Texas. Each of three laps will be as follows:

The start/finish line will be underneath the Mopac Bridge which is approximately 300 meters east of the UT Women's Crew facility.

At the start paddlers will proceed west (upstream) 2000 meters upstream to Red Bud Island.  At the island, paddlers will enter the channel on the right (facing upstream) to a buoy approximately 75 meters into that channel. Turning counterclockwise (left) around that buoy, paddlers will proceed back downstream (east) past to the start/finish line passing underneath (1) the MoPac bridge, (2) Lamar Ave. bridge, (3) underneath a pedestrian bridge, (4) underneath a railroad bridge and (5) underneath the South First Street bridge to the (6) Congress Ave. Bridge. Passing underneath the Congress Ave. bridge and staying right of the piling nearest the right-hand shore, paddlers will turn counterclockwise (left) left 90 degrees past a buoy and proceed across the river to a second buoy and turn again 90 degrees past the bridge piling nearest that shore. Proceeding back west past the Lamar Ave. bridge, the paddlers will enter the portage area consisting of docks at Texas Rowing Center on the right shore. Exiting from the rowing center docks, the portage trail will go west approximately 75 meters along the jogging trail to a put in on a temporary dock. Upon entering the water again, paddlers will proceed west approximately 100 meters past the Mopac bridge start/finish area thus completing one lap.

Paddlers will then make two more loops on the same course and finish under the MoPac bridge at the point where the race began. All senior classes will make three loops. Junior paddlers will make only two loops."

All other non-ICF Marathon Team Trial Races (outrigger, USCA C-1 and USCAC-2) race courses will be 20 km and will described on the morning of the races.
