Report=Took the kids out on a rental skiff from Davey's. I wanted to show my daughter how to properly "fly-line" live bait and the fiesty mackerel at the end of the jetty did the job nicely. Wasn't wide open like two weeks ago, but we managed a dozen or so in a couple of hours. The 1-pound macks were a little to wirey for my four year old to bring in by herself but the 9 yr old was having a blast on #4 test. This is how I used to remember "training for tuna" when I was a kid, except we used to hook into 2-5 pound bonito, sometimes wide-open, in the very same spot. Long gone are those days. Sad. We went back into the bay for some bass action. It was slow in here too, but we managed a few, and my daughter fought a nice bass/halibut for at least 5 min before it broke her #4 test. My fault for not putting heavier line on her reel but she does pretty good for a little girl.
