Report=This was our first-ever fishing tournament held by Fishinghotpage.com. The weather and fishing could have been better, but over-all it was a fair to good day for most everyone. (at least it didn't rain!) The staff at SARL did a great job of hosting the event, they worked hard to keep the non-tournament anglers and comorants off of the lake. They also donated some nice T-shirts, Sweat shirts and Gate and Boat passes for the raffle. There were also two VERY NICE G-Loomis trout rods custom wrapped and donated by Mola Joe. I almost did not want to give those away! Scott Robertson, a.k.a. "Fishin' Fool", did a great job with the BBQ. Those were, without a doubt, some of the best burgers and dogs that I have ever had.
As for the fishing, well it was hot for the first hour and then it just stopped. I caught two right away and then nothing for the rest of the day. I believe the recent bad weather may have had something to do with that. There were lots of big fish caught though, First place winner was Dan Kodama with a 12.5 pounder. Jim Anderson took second with a 12.1 Lloyd (this guy slept out in a tent -- through massive hail and thunderstorms -- just to be first to get the "spot") and third place was claimed by Jay Lamori with an 11.7 pounder. Ron Jamie took the heaviest limit with only three fish totaling out at 29.5 pounds. Congradulations to those anglers and the many others who took rainbows in the 8-10 pound range. One angler even weighed in a 13.7 pounder 15 minutes after the deadline. (he had hooked it at exactly 12:00) Although he did not qualify, he was very happy anyway, just to get a toad. There was also an unidentified angler that took a "blue tagged" fish which qualifies him for the regular SARL tagged derby.
I would personally like to thank everybody for attending our first tournament. I hope you all had a good time and look forward to seeing you at the next event. Good Fishing, Jeff.
