Report: I fished the Opal St. Dock while hosting the tournament. My catch consisted of several small bass and a 3 foot smoothhound shark. I also lost a "toad" bass which I fought for several minutes before getting wrapped around a bouy line. What was most exciting was seeing all of the nice fish brought to the dock for weigh-in.
Largest Halibut was a nice 14.9 pounder taken by Sylvia Leili. Largest bass was a 2.3 pound sandie taken by.... Sylvia Leili. Yes, this girl "swept" this derby taken both large fish jackpots for a total of $180. She was fishing from a rental skiff over by the Coast Guard dock. There were also many bass in the 1-2 pound range weighed in as well as one other legal halibut at 4.4 pounds.
We also gave away lots of great stuff donated by our sponsors. There were tackle grab bags from Gofishin.com, Tool holders from Holdzit and everyone who participated got fish measuring tapes from Legal Limits. Heaviest 5-fish limit was taken by Fongster and Yutaka for a nice Calico Bass Hitch Cover from Wes Products.
Much thanks to all 18 teams who participated in the derby, to Fongster for setting up the "After Tourney Get Together" and a big thanks to Peggy T. She helped out with the weigh in and photography which made things much easier for myself and those of you weighing in. And she's single guys......
Next Tournament - L.B. Harbor Bass Derby.
