Yuck!! Dirty, green, cold water all around San Diego. We didn't get the port side tank replaced yet on Joe's boat so we could not chase the albies yet. Decided to fish local where Joe had slayed them last week. The latest SST charts showed the warmest water being 5 miles off La Jolla, so we headed there. The water was warmer in this area but still very dirty green. We trolled around and I was surprised with a nice hookup not long after trolling. It was a 10 pound yellow that ate the anchovy CD-18 Rapala. This was even after we crossed a temp. break back into cooler water. Anyway, that was probably the only stupid yellowtail in the area that wanted to bite. We trolled and trollled and trolled. Nothing. No paddies around either. Just a bunch of "trash" (grass strands and kelp pieces) that kept getting stuck on the Rapalas. Did see a HUGE whale though, don't know what kind it was but HUGE!!! (Blue whale??) We went inside to scratch some rockfish and maybye a stray WSB, but even that bite was tough, with only a few sculpin and whitefish. Went back out and trolled some more. Heard some chatter on the radio from guys fishing the 371 and getting a few under paddies. Also a few threshers off Oceanside. Not enough range for the Breeze Bayou with only one tank. "Screw this!!! we're beating a dead horse!" went back in at 2:00 and cleaned up. Thanks again Jofishmore for inviting us fishing. I had a great time regardless of our lack of catching. That's why they call it FISHING and not CATCHING. We're getting a new port gas tank installed soon and then we are going to paint the back deck red.....
