Hunter Safety Program

AAF&G offers state certified Maryland hunter safety programs. Classes are open to the public and there is no minimum age requirement. The course is approximately 14 hours, typically given over two week nights and a Saturday. Fee for the course is $5. With advanced notice, we will have an interpreter present for deaf students.

Classroom Topics Include:
  • Safe Firearms Handling
  • Marksmanship
  • Hunter Ethics
  • Shot Placement/Tracking and Trailing
  • Handgun Hunting
  • Muzzleloading
  • Archery
  • Basic Survival
  • Wildlife Management
Saturday Field Exercises Include:
  • Live Fire on the Small Bore Rifle Range
  • Live Fire on the Trap/Skeet Range
  • Tree Stand Safety
  • Hunting out of Blinds
  • Hunting out of Boats
  • Crossing Obstacles
  • Hunting over Dogs
  • Shoot/No Shoot Scenarios
  • Zones of Fire


Students who successfully complete the course receive a hunter safety card that is recognized in all 50 states.

Classes are offered at AAF&G in the spring and fall each year. AAF&G classes are registered with the MD Department of Natural Resources. Registration for AAF&G classes is required in person at Anglers Sports Center 1456 Whitehall Rd Annapolis (410-757-3442). The 5$ course fee is due at the time of registration.
