One of our favorite things to do after a busy week at work is to pack up our pop-up and head for one of the many campgrounds in the Maryland or Delaware areas. There are so many within a 1 to 2 hour drive. There's nothing better than sitting around the campfire telling stories and of course the smores.
Some of the campgrounds we've been to recently is Killens Pond State Park and Elk Neck State Park
If you're looking for a campground anywhere in the USA check out either Go Camping America orCamp Net Lots of other great info here, such as where to get camping stuff, recipes, and lots more. Some other campgrounds we have visited are Spring Gulch in the Lancaster, PA area. We checked out this campground a few months ago and are planning a trip there sometime in June.
For the past seven years I've spent a week at the Holiday Best Travel Park on General Booth Blvd. in Virginia Beach. It's a short 5 minute ride to the free parking area, for the campground guests only, to get to the beautiful beaches. Here you will often see dolphins swimming up and down the coast. We are usually there from Labor Day Weekend to catch the annual American Music Festival. There are alot of free concerts up & down the oceanfront with all kinds of music as well as big name bands at the 5th Street Stage that tickets are required for. Most area hotels and campgrounds offer complimentary tickets for these events. Then after an action packed weekend, the mass exodus takes place on Monday. The rates go down and the campground and beaches are not that crowded. If you have the time to stay for the following weekend, the Shriners come into town for their Midatlantic States conference. They put together a big parade that lasts 3-4 hours. It is something worth seeing. So if you're looking for a quiet way to spend a week winding down the summer, after the weekend that is, meet us there, we'll be glad to see ya.
