1996 to Present ~ Research Associate

High Performance Database Research Center, Florida International University

  • Designed, implemented and tested web-based distributed software progress management system using Java, JDBC, Perl, Rational Rose on Oracle database and Perforce software control system.
  • Responsible for migrating NASA RVC (Regional Validation Center) software from ObjectStore to Semantic Database using C++ and database API.
  • Implemented, integrated and maintained semantic database to relational database conversion tools including schema translation and form generator using C++, C, Java and awk.
  • Responsible for TPCD benchmark implementation and database tuning on Oracle in Database Benchmark Group.
  • Designed Temporal GIS database using Arc/Info, Visual C++ and Active X.
  • Developed university learning center management application using Visual Basic and Microsoft Access.

1993 to 1996 ~ Project Development Manager and Senior Software Engineer

Huatek Software Engineering Company Ltd., Shanghai, China

  • Planned, directed and coordinated development activities of the most successful company project, SCO OpenServer Internationalization (I18N) project for The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (SCO), which provides internationalized capabilities to all 97 major Unix utilities and all standard X Window and SCO OpenServer clients following XPG4 standard.
  • Analyzed, designed, coded and tested various Unix internationalized utilities. Analyzed and tested various X Window and SCO OpenServer internationalized clients. Systematized and integrated the final release.
  • Supervised, analyzed, designed, implemented and tested Chinese localization of SCO OpenServer I18N version.
  • Designed and implemented various system tools to assist project management, including bug control system and SCCS extension utilities.
  • Initiated HPHR project, which is part of HP's platform migration project using PeopleSoft's PeopleBase HRMS module. Designed and implemented MPE JCL simulation tool set on HP-UX to migrate a variety of modules from MPE/Allbase to HP-UX/Oracle using shell scripts, awk and Perl.
  • Proposed, established, supervised and supported entire company network, including TCP/IP technologies, cross-connecting multi-platform systems, web site administration, and intranet construction.

1993 to 1994 ~ Software Engineer

Hewlett-Packet Co., Palo Alto, CA

  • Engaged in a significant project to improve HP Purchasing System within Material System Development Department. Particular responsibility for design, development and test of program enhancements on HP3000 MPE/IMAGE and HP9000 HP-UX using C, COBOL and XRunner.
  • Examined and implemented automatic testing environment for IMAGE and other MPE applications on HP-UX platform.
  • Contributed extensively to unit test activities within Response Center Lab, in Worldwide Custom Support Operation. Responsibilities include test plan design, version control and database schema investigation using C and Perl on HP-UX.

1992 to 1993 ~ Lead Engineer

Inventec Electronics (Shanghai) co., Ltd., Shanghai, China

  • Supervised, designed and implemented OCR(Optical Character Recognition) product for company's next generation product using C and assembler language on firmware and Microsoft Windows.
  • Contributed to PDA(Personal Digital Assistance) system design and notebook BIOS design.

1990 to 1992 ~ Assistant Engineer

Shanghai Electric Power Dispatching Center, Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Bureau, Shanghai, China

  • Assisted chief engineer in the design of upcoming projects of communication systems, especially for mobile communication, microwave communication and digital switch.
  • Designed and implemented sub-systems for center's telecommunication management system on Dbase and DOS.
