What it's about: Li Mu Bai is a martial arts master who has decided to give up the warrior's way for love. To do so he gives his sword, the Green Destiny, to a long time friend. While in the friend's possession, the sword is stolen by a female thief, trained in the arts of an ancient martial arts style. He and his companion must find who stole the sword and at the same time, kill the woman who killed his Master and try to retrieve the book that holds the secrets of the ancient martial arts style.
What I thought: HOLY SHNIKIES! What an amazing movie. I knew it was a Chinese love story but man on man was it ever a good movie! The story was very well done, not quite what I was used to after seeing other Chinese movies. The acting was very well done and the scenery was incredible. But yes, the main draw of this movie is obviously the fight sequences. And again, HOLY SHNIKIES were they ever cool.

Each sequence was obviously done with wire suits but the actually physical combat was so well done. It was done by the same guy who did the MATRIX fight scenes and they were incredibly fast paced. They must have trained for quite a while to do those scenes. I know that Michelle Yeoh has worked with Jackie Chan before (in Supercop) but these fight scenes were even better than those ones.

So why the rating? It was an absolutely incredible movie with good action, a nice flowing script, awesome action scenes and beautiful scenery. One of the best martial arts films I've seen in a long time. And a word to the unknowing, the entire film is done in Chinese so for us English speakers it's subtitled but that's no excuse not to go see it. Absolutely incredible.
