Wilderness Safety and First Aid Training. Saturday, May 15th from 9:30AM – 4:00PM at Survival Decisions Inc., Basking Ridge NJ. Do you travel, fly, hunt, hike, camp or just enjoy outdoor activity? Then you might want to know what to do if you were in an accident, injured, stranded, lost, cold and hungry. Survival Decisions Inc., proudly offers an exciting, highly informative, hands on experience where you are trained by survival instructor, Dr. Stuart White, MD. Your action packed Saturday will include important topics such as preparing for survival, simulated plane crash and emergency management, building shelters, finding water, food, rescue and much more. Hike - Sunday, May 23, Stokes State Forest Hike - A 10-mile loop hike starting in the forest and then climbing up the Kittatiny Ridge where we will hike to the Sunrise Mountain overlook, Normanook Fire Tower, and back down the ridge. Bring lunch, water, and good shoes. Meet at BASF Visitor Parking lot at 9:00 am or at the Stokes State Forest Stony Lake Parking Area at 10:00 am. Directions to Stokes: take 206 North. The Park entrance is located 3 miles north of Branchville on the right side of 206 North. Follow signs to Stony Lake via Courson Road. Courson Road passes Kittle Field on the left. Turn right at the t-junction onto Kittle Road and proceed to the Stony Lake parking area. Hike is free for OAC members, $5 for non-OAC members. Mountain Biking – Thursday June 3rd. We would like to get together a mountain biking club that would meet locally to ride one day a week after work if enough people are interested. For the first ride, meet at Allamuchy State Park. at 5:45. Will begin at 6:00. Take Rout 80 West to exit 19. Make a left at end of ramp. Go straight on 517. Will pass Mattar’s restaurant on your right. Right past the restaurant, make a left on Deer Park Road. Go all the way down to the parking lot. Must wear a helmet. Bring water. Learn to Kayak with Kittatiny Canoes - Sunday June 13. Challenge the river one-on-one in easy to use kayaks with instruction and a guided river trip down the Delaware River. Cost is $36.50 for OAC members, $41.50 for non-OAC members. Payment required by May 30th and should be sent to Janet, ITCA 500 International Drive, Mount Olive, NJ 07828. Lunch and LearnTuesday June 15th 11:30am-1:00pm -Room 4E02 at BASF- "How to buy hiking boots". Ed Baldwin will discuss the best way to get what you need in the way of boots to get out there and go hiking. Discussion will be on proper fit-foot types, orthotic inserts, break-in periods; boot types-light hiking, medium duty and heavy duty boot types; boot designs-what's a shank?, what's Gore-tex?, what does waterproof mean?, are boots insulated?; socks-get the right socks and make your feet feel happy!; questions to ask your salesperson-warrantees, what if my feet hurt?, do you stretch boots? etc.; Q & A.

 

 

Spring Mountain Biking Trail Touring & Picnic - Saturday June 26. Paulinskill Valley Trail (1999) - Footbridge Park in Blairstown (Warren County) to Brugler Road - Western Terminus in Knowlton (Warren County) and back Ride is 15 miles. Meet at 11:00 am ????. Rollerblading in Central Park - Saturday, July 10 Meet at BASF Visitor Parking lot at 9:30 for carpool (driver's needed), the Sheraton Tara Hotel Parsippany at 10:00, or the Went 72nd Street Central Park entrance at 11:15. New bladers can take advantage of the free stopping lesson offered by Central Park Skate Patrol and then we will "go for it" along Park drive and picnic in the park. Helmets required; wrist, elbow, and knee pads strongly recommended. Rentals available locally through Pelican Ski or other outdoor stores or rent in NYC from Blades Board and Skate West Side, 120 West 72nd Street. Hike - Saturday, August 28 - Full Moon Hike/Swim at Blue Mountain Lakes

See the moon rise over Crater Lake. Easy hike along mining/fire roads traversing the ridge line Bring swimsuits, food, flashlights, and hiking boots. The hike must end by 10:00 pm when the area closes. Meet at 3:30 pm at BASF Visitors parking lot or meet at 4:30 PM at Blue Mountain Lakes parking area. Take exit 12 on Route 80. Turn right off exit ramp onto 521 North. Take 521 to the t-junction with route 94 and turn left. At the traffic light, turn right. Go straight past main street, up this hill, and bear left on county road 602 to Millbrook Village. Turn right at Millbrook Village and go about 1.5 miles to the Blue Mountain Lakes sign - turn right and look for the parking area (About 1.5 miles in on the left). Beach Hike - Saturday, August ??. Island Beach State Park. Seaside Park, NJ. Meet at the Aeolium Nature Center (1 mile in from park front gate) at 10:30AM. Try to get there early since the park closes when it gets crowded. We will get trail maps and hike from 11AM to 2PM stopping at some point for lunch. White Water Rafting – Pocono Whitewater, Saturday, September 18th. Details will follow…

 

Horseback Riding - Saturday, ?? (date will be set in the near future). Spring Valley Equestrian Center in Newton, NJ Meeting at 4PM. Length of ride 1 hour. Wear long pants and boots with heels. Rain date is ?? . Cost is $25 for OAC members, $30 non members. Trail ride followed by a campfire and a cook-out! Limit of 20 people.
