Day 1

Walk: Snowdon via Crib Goch

Group: 5 people

Weather: Cold and Windy, snow and ice

Distance: 13km

Comments: As had become my standard route for Snowdon a group of us used day one to go via Crib Goch. the difference with this walk is that for several years I had been wanting ot do the walk in snow and ice and this was my first opportunity. As we got to the path that splits from the Pig Track to become Crib Goch, Anthony decided that he woul drather go up the Pig. He left us and we proceeded up Crib Goch. Discovering that despite the weather there were several groups up there. Thankfully we managed to get most of the way across without being held up or causing a hold up.

The biggest surprise was to discover that Anthony had waited for us at the top of his route and so that we could wander up to the summit together. Byt al accounts he was quite cold having waited probably half an hour because we had taken our time owing to the conditions. After a stop at the summit we again split the group on the way down. Anthony had complained about how bad the Pig Track had been so most of the group went down the Tourist route whilst myself and Chris opted to go down the Pig Track. We didn't have any issues with it and ran into the others as we drove to Petes Eats in Llanberis.

We opted not to stop to long and drove back to the hut we were staying at where I was to cook dinner later (not surprisingly it was a curry)

Day 2

Walk: Carnedd Dafyd

Group: 4 people

Weather: Cold and Windy, snow and ice

Distance: 11km

Comments: We were only looking for a short circular walk from Idwal Cottage so did not propose to do the full range of Carned's. The initial ascent of this route compares with another ascent that I am not overly fond of (Kirk Fell). we made reasonably good time up to the summit with only a brief stop when the group had to split, I opted for the more scrambling route whilst some of the others looked for a slightly easier route. We did not wait to long at the summit as the windchill was definately putting it sub zero. I did wonder whether I should have worn more than shorts but whilst we walked I was warm enough. We did see a small group of others choose to take a rather silly route down to the loch but assumed they must of known what they were doing. We later saw them appear behind us, once they realised they were not on the right path. We didn't have the time to do Foal Gach and cam e down to the reservoir. I was quite pleased with my navigation, came out spot on plan despite the constant detours due to snow drifts. The final walk was a pleasant stroll along the side of the lake back to Idwal Cottage.
